Star Wars Outlaws

I don't think there is anything wrong with Ubisoft making those games exclusive to their platform...those are sure to be big sellers so why share that with Valve or Epic at launch?...keep more of the profits and 6+ months later open it up to Steam and Epic Store...Epic, Blizzard etc all have their own exclusives on their platform so nothing wrong with Ubisoft doing the same...they should do that with the new AC: Mirage game as well...even if Steam got the games you would still need to connect it to your Ubisoft Connect account

Ubisoft doesn't want to share that star wars and avatar cash with epic or valve.
They are probably feeling desperate at this point.

I thought Ubisoft would go that route, but then they brought games back to Steam very recently. Maybe they will do one year on their own store and then bring them over to Steam/EGS. But their decisions on this seem all over the place. Was: Ubisoft Connect & EGS. Now: Connect, EGS and Steam. Going forward: Connect only or timed exclusive?

I assume they need to pay a hefty royalty and for these games will try and funnel all sales direct to save on fees.

They've lost the 1-2% of us non-Windows users :troll:. UbiConnect is awful and I had constant issues with it even on Windows; no way I'm touching anything that needs it.

I've never had an issue with UPlay or Ubisoft Connect in Windows. Since Ubisoft games on Steam require the full package of Ubisoft's software be installed and running to launch, why not cut out the middle man and buy directly from Ubisoft?
Because Ubisoft/Connect is the middleman. :)

Many Steam users prefer all their games in one place, so even though Ubisoft may prefer customers purchase direct from Ubistore for greater profit per sale, that's a Ubisoft problem, not a customer problem. Ubisoft will have to incentivize direct sales better if it matters to them.

I doubt it will matter much. You need to use Connect on Steam anyways. I guess Ubisoft knows it won't matter much because they just brought their older games back to Steam so they likely worked out something that works best for them. My assumption is get the higher margins when games are new, and then when older and they sell most copies lower priced during a sale they will bring it to Steam. Get those high margins from the die hard fans, then bring it to Steam later so people buy it on sale and probably won't even play it.

We still talking about digital platforms and games in one place? Next can we talk about how digital games are never owned but rentals only and we will lose all access when these services die? Oh also can we talk about how dunuvo makes your computer slow and scrubs all porn.

I have never seen such dense people on the internet. There are online services everywhere. You login and you do your business. One app extra won’t kill anyone.

Best is when you have a game on gog that launches epic that launches steam that launches UBI or EA that launches rockstar launcher to load up RDR2. Dope af.

I'm not a fan of exclusives but I can understand and accept when a publisher makes a game exclusive to their launcher as long as the launcher isn't garbage(like origin was for a bit). I had some minor issues with Ubisoft's launcher early on but it has been decent enough the last few years.

I have almost 35 games on the Ubisoft launcher. Never had an issue. Also it provides some of the fastest DL speeds in my region (maxes out my 1000 Mbps link).

This idea that we all have to love STEAM and hate every other digital platform is actually anti-consumer because it is attempting to promote a monopoly. Monopolies, in the marketplace, are not good for consumers, period.

And what’s the chief reason most people love Steam so much? - you pretty much nailed it: it’s because they want their games in one place. I will always have dozens of launchers on my desktop, and it’s a ridiculous notion that I can’t handle having three or four dedicated game launchers amongst them. Switching between launchers is literally no more difficult than switching channels on a tv. And gamers call devs lazy. How lazy are you if you can’t be bothered to click your mouse button one extra time.

Ubisoft, EA and Epic all have platforms that work perfectly fine, and the criticisms people voice against these platforms are largely hyperbolic.

Ubisoft not putting its games on Steam makes perfect sense because of the ridiculous fee that Steam charges for distribution. Why should Ubisoft give such a massive percentage of its profits to Gabe Newell? If I were Ubisoft I’d avoid Steam like the plague.

They can’t. Even with paying Mob Boss Gabe his tribute, in the long run they make far more with Steam exposure then if they just sell in the Ubi store.

They’ll probably sell this Star Wars game exclusively on Ubi to maximize short term profit and then open it up to Steam at a later date.

The issue is Steam is still where the majority of paying customers on PC are. Publishers are shooting themselves in the foot if they ignore Steam completely. I think it is a valid business strategy for them to release exclusively on their own platform at launch and then sell on Steam at a later time when sales and engagement begins to taper off. A Steam release gives much-needed new life to games, especially important for multiplayer titles.

While true, The Division 2 sold more copies than the first game when it launched exclusively on UPlay. I'm sure it was an outlier, though. We can speculate if they could have sold even more had they launched simultaneously on Steam, but that is purely academic.

Ubisoft's open world Star Wars game will not have procedurally generated planets: Every game world is 'handcrafted'

Each of Star Wars Outlaw's game world will have an explorable area roughly equivalent to two of the regions in Assassin's Creed Odyssey...

https://www.pcgamer.com/ubisofts-op...ated-planets-every-game-world-is-handcrafted/

Odyssey had one large map aside from the DLC. It was broken up into regions but each region varied quite a bit in size, so that is a bit vague.

An example of the Achaia region:

Assuming that is an averaged sized region, each planet will be fairly large if it is 2-3 times the size of it. They have not said how many planets there will be but I assume 2-4. Of course I am not worried about size, but rather if the gameplay will be like Odyssey. "Hand crafted" is an interesting phrase to use because while not procedural generated, games like Odyssey are mainly artwork with dead worlds, with NPCs just loitering around or relooping and generic animations. There is little reason to explore most areas on the map aside and you typically make a beeline for the nearest loot box rather than soak in the environment or listen to interesting dialogue.

If this game is full of markers with the same basic activity slightly altered like eagle nests/sync points, papers, and dead cities/towns, I think I wouldn't agree with Ubisoft's definition of "hand crafted". And Ubisoft has bigger problems to worry about than size/artwork. I don't care how big the world is, I care about how interesting and fun it is. Darting to a location for 7 minutes, to hear an NPC you'll never meet again babble about something, grabbing their loot box, and then having the objective update and say you need to run to another marker for another 5 minutes isn't exactly fun.

This is the game I want not to confused with Starfield.

Will this game be good? I hope so. It has a big potential to be far cry assassins wars. I dont want their cookie cutter formula for this one.

Same studio made the Division games and the recent Avatar game.
So what can we expect? Who knows but it will probably be pretty good.

It also appears that it wont appear on steam or epic. Uplay only. This sucks since I have never once been able to connect to it on my handheld. It is the only issue I have. I have tried to play AC and Ghost Recon and they are dead due to this connection issue.

Yeah it looks like the game is on Rails the footage shown looks like the same stuff from 6 months ago. But I could be wrong

Magic 8 ball says...Yes

good to see Ubisoft switch to the Snowdrop engine...it'll at least be the best looking SW game

Looks similar to Jedi Survivor, but with an emphasis on shooting rather than light sabers. With luck it won't have too much junk side activities. I found Jedi Survivor, while having a lot of side stuff, to be more sensible. Most of the areas were covered by side quests gotten at a hub.

Looks OK I guess, but a FPS mode would be nice. And I hope there isn't a lot of those stupid "These guys never quit!" and "That went well!" phrases, over and over, like you're stuck in a straight to video 80's action movie.

Not as bad as some other western developers, but I don't understand why they get a model or actor for facial and motion capture when they alter the model, anyway. I've no issue with the bridge of her nose being crooked in the game, as that probably goes to the character getting their nose broken at some point in the past, but there is just something... odd about the game model that I can't put my finger on.
