Xbox Series S

Possibly the most embarrassing showing for the Series S yet - COD: MW2

As reviewed by digital foundry the Series S falls to even the PS4 pro. Although settings might be higher, the series S runs at 1440p vs the PS4 pro 1530p while performing worse. The One X overshoots with 4k res but would likely perform similar or better had it been 1800p

That's pretty cool. Despite the bashing, the Series S at a holiday price of $250 is still a banging deal, especially with game pass. Even if you use it as just retro gaming Xbox 360 HD of sorts with much faster load times, it is well worth the money.

Millions of less fortunate kids here would go nuts if the $50 price drop put the console in Christmas gift reach.

Microsoft announces black Xbox Series S with 1TB of storage for $349

The Xbox Series S originally shipped in white with just 512GB of storage.

Microsoft has just announced a new black version of the Xbox Series S with 1TB of built-in storage at the Xbox Games Showcase. Little has changed here since the original Xbox Series S, apart from a black paint job and more storage inside.

Microsoft is launching the 1TB black Xbox Series S on September 1st priced at $349, and pre-orders start today.

Microsoft’s $349 pricing means you’re paying an extra $50 for the 512GB of storage on the black Xbox Series S model. Microsoft says this new Xbox Series S variant will be available on September 1st, just in time for the fall releases of Starfield and Forza Motorsport.

And it will be remembered as another Microsoft blunder in how it's holding back their exclusive games with Series S functionality being a requirement for games sold on the system.

Love these old threads where i'm right.

How about a series S but in a handheld format ??

Instead of a series S next, we could have a handheld gaming device (like Switch/Deck)!!!

It was rumoured that the hardware behind steam deck was originally meant to be a handheld for Microsoft but MS developed cold feet & AMD had to go flogging the hardware to others such as Valve (who eventually took the bait)

I'd be interested - there's a lot of Game Pass games that would work well on a handheld, and not having to worry about the Windows side of things like I do with my ROG Ally is appealing.

It would be a great way to 'recycle' the hardware. Same specs, just different node.

There would only be 3 platforms to develop for: Series S / next handheld, Series X, Next X instead of 4: one s, one x, Series s, Series x

Strix Point and Strix Halo are expected to hit similar and higher performance.
Need to see specs & power consumption

It is possible that steam deck 2, series S handheld & PS4 handheld all could release in the same timeframe (possibly on 3nm)

Microsoft looking at 3 to 5 year timeframe to introduce the series S next surface/xbox handheld

It seems very likely that an Xbox gaming handheld or maybe even a Microsoft surface gaming handheld could launch within the next five years.

What you need to know

  • Microsoft emailed out a seven-minute survey that asks questions about gaming handhelds.
  • The survey asks questions such as — what motivated you to get a gaming handheld?, What features do you like most about it?, and do you plan on buying another gaming handheld in the next three to five years?
  • There have been rumors that Microsoft is looking to create an Xbox gaming handheld, so it's possible this survey is gauging interest for such a device.
