WRT54GC, Can't change password.

Well, the title says it. It seems that no matter what I do, I can't change the password. I got this thing from a friend who changed the default password a LONG time ago and can't remember the password. He can't remember the WEP key either. The reset button doesn't seem to work. Is there anything else I can do? I'm even willing to change/upgrade the firmware to anything else if it'll do the trick. The only thing I won't do is open the damned thing. Please help! Thanks.

Hold the reset button in for a good 30 seconds until the lights go out and come back - should reset it. Otherwise you could try searching for Linksys TFTP and see if you can TFTP the latest firmware to it.

Also the default for the 54GC is a little odd -- blank username, admin is the password.

Well, I tried both of those things and neither did me any good. So strange..... and then my friend calls me at 3am (I was still awake, playing with the network) and gives me the password.
