Will this be an issue with heat build up?

It's a plastic case. I've ready received one to try out and it works, but I'm concerned about potential heat build up. I did put a thin piece of brass top along with a thermal pad, but the thin brass sheet that I used will only be touching the plastic case. Should I drill some holes instead?

You should be fine with just your add-ons. Pretty sure all my old SSDs that filled the inside with flash chips came in plastic cases.

If you're adventurous enough, you could try mounting it without using the case at all (unless this is for a laptop...).

Yeah it will be for a laptop; however, I still could mount it without the top cover so it's vented at least, using the existing HD caddy.
