Thanks for this. Just to clarify, if I were to spring for a 2070 Super, it doesnt lock me into the x70 lineup, does it? I would be able be able to step up to the 3080? That pretty much solves the problem right there. Its not a problem of the price tag, I've known I was upgrading this generation since I went vega in early 2018. Its the availablity concern combined with no longer having a card to wait with.Buy a new EVGA card register when you get it then sign up for the stepup program. You will be tied to the difference in price from your card a an XCBlack version of whatever you want to stepup to but you wont lose any money or playing time.

Edit- eclypse, Im well past my OC days - as long as its a stable card with decent temps at stock clocks, I would be happy. I upgraded to x570 in anticipation of Zen 3 - once I get this GPU knocked out, the only thing left in the build is whatever the newest 8c/16t 300 dollar sku will be.
Starting to see a few somewhat enticing deals on 2080 supers today. An MSI ventus sold for $400 locally on CL. Watched an EVGA gaming black go for winning bid of $420 on fee bay. Would be a big step up from my RX 480 for sure. Roughly 130%?
Did you not see the live Doom Eternals gameplay FPS difference at 4K with everything on between the 2080ti and the 3080? In many cases it was double the FPS. Someone else posted it and you can see real world game play numbers with that demo. This is also most likely with less than optimal pre-release drivers.
Ok, just re-acclimated myself with the program. That settles it, Theres an Evga 2070 Super at my local Best Buy I can pick up today. I’ll have 14 days to NOT register it in case I’m able to pick up a 3080 on launch day.. so I can return without jacking it up warranty rights for the next person. If not, I’ll use the StepUp program to and it will cost me roughly 200 bucks.
THIS right here is why (H) is awesome.
I figured as much. As long I get confirmation that I am on the list, and I have a solid performing card as the stopgap, I won’t mind the wait. Probably allows me to appreciate the leap that much more. Even before it died, the nitro couldn’t play Horizon at native res with high enough frames to freesync to kick in. The 2070 S by itself would have been a game changer, lol. You'll get put on a waiting list for step up IIRC. You just have to be on the waiting list within 90 days of purchase. No idea how long the wait is.
Overall based on leaked benchmarks it’s not close to double. Here’s a nice summary:

I game at 1080p and so I’ll definitely wait on 3080 ti and Big Navi before I switch out my 2080 Ti.
Might be true, but I'll take an actual video showing real game performance over some random reddit post.

It's okay. Buy what you want. You aren't going to get top of the line for 1080 Ti prices no matter what you whine about. It is what it is. There's always lessor performance from AMD...
Who's whining?
Not sure. I see a lot of it for pricing.
We're talking about benchmarks and you quoted me talking about prices and whining. Not sure what your point was here.
Sorry brother. I guess I'm tired of folks crying about high-end cost for high-end performance. All of us just don't care about price when all is said and done. Just ignore me. No sweat.

Again, video demo already linked showing double the DPS at 4K in Doom Eternal. You can go watch it yourself in this thread. Vs someone posting in reddit no matter who they are.
I don't doubt the FPS is great in Doom at 4K, but that doesn't mean it's always double or close to double 90% of the time. Based on the leaked benchmarks, the 3080 excels at 4K vs 2080 Ti but the gap closes quite a bit at lower resolutions. Will wait on more benchmarks regardless, just a few days now.

Dropping in with an update to my situation. Best buy employee gave me the knowing nod when I asked specifically for the EVGA 2070. $569 price, roughly 615 after tax. They had an FE 2070 S, in stock at 499, and they had an MSI 2060 S card listed at 449, which made me chuckle. That said...

Oof. This card fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. Never been a fan of clear plastic shrouds and this one is just...nah. Reminds me of those Altezza style taillights the ricers used to put on Civic and Accords (sub Silverados and Yukons if you're from the country) in the mid 00's. Surprisingly small compared to the old chonker. Performance is a totally different beast, though. Tested HZD @ 3840x1200, set to ultra, min framerates were upper 50s during an intense fight with a pair of rockbreakers. The 1600 is the obvious weak link - a faster CPU probably gives me a base of mid/high 60s. Color me impressed! Getting by with this while waiting in the step up list is the definition of a first world problem.
I got an alert for this, but I thought it was just the watercooler only (price was cut off)..
They were gone before I realized. sad.

Good for you!For those selling Turing cards locally, you may be surprised at the price you can get. I sold (2) 2080 supers today for $500 each to different buyers. And yes they were aware of new card releases coming soon.
Just FYI, you may be able to sell for more locally.
Actually the people I sold to said they feared waiting for months on end to get a card, and frankly they didn’t need the extra horse power. Both said almost the same thing. Both seemed content with spending what they did.Good for you!
2080 Ti can be sold for up to ~$US 700 in my area... this is irrational given that the upcoming 3080 will sell for the same price... but 30-50% faster (+ HDMI 2.1).
Frankly, I do not know if these buyers ignore the existence of the 3000 series or lack a bit of *processing power*.

It’s really only been the forums I frequent that have been dogging prices on the Turing cards. My local experiences have been very different.
snip...That will further tank the value of the 2080ti.
I love it when people start chirping at me because I bought 2 2080ti’s. They are quick to remind me that they will only resell for $300. It’s all good until I ask them if the 2080ti is worth $300, how much are they going to ask for their 2060 or 5700xt.
...The 1080ti works just fine for any games I run.
