optical mouse, feet, skipping?

I've had a Microsoft Optical Wheel mouse at work for the past 2-3 years and it's been working great until this month. The black feet wore off a while ago, so I replaced them with stick-on mouse feet and that was working fine. Since it started skipping this month, I tried replacing the feet again with no luck. Could it be that the laser is just not working correctly anymore or what?

its quite likely one of the electrical cables is broken and makes a connection most of the time.
I had the same mouse and it did the same thing a year or 2 back.

Looks like I need a new work mouse. Hope my MX500 at home doesn't do the same thing.

EDIT: just used canned air and blew out the bottom and top of the mouse this morning and it didn't work. Although, I looked at the back of the computer and it seems the mouse was a little loose and possibly slightly out of the slot so I pushed it all the way in. Now it seems to work fine for the moment. Sometimes it's just the simplest things.
