One of my monitors finally died yesterday so I get to replace one. I have been eyeing some 2560x1440 models and a question hit when I saw the 2560x1080 by LG.

I know it can't be this simple, but if I had a 2560x1080 side by side with a 1920x1080 would it solve the issue of crosshairs being on the bezels? Or would the system auto correct the picture to still have the center of the screen where the two met?

Regardless, the wider form factor is still intriguing.

This would be a strange application, but theoretically if this was done, it would currently only work on ATI rather than nVidia because nVidia does not do 2-monitor spanning (until driver version 325 according to nVidia, in the 2 monitor surround thread on the geforce forums)

I think it would scale according to resolution, not to display, so crosshairs would show up on your 2560x1080. Also beware the viewing angles of TN panels, with the 1920x1080 monitor on the very end where you have to stare at that screen from a very off-angle. You could angle the 1920x1080 towards you, but that could look a bit strange with your 2560x1080 monitor to one side. Better play only on your 2560x1080 and use your spare monitor for info display (clock, notes, cheatsheets, walkthroughs, hotkey documents, etc).

You will also have massive distortion because the PPI are different. A 27" 1440p is 108PPI. 1080p is 100PPI for 22", 92PPI for 24", and 82PPI for 27".

Thanks for the responses folks.

I ended up buying the AOC 29 incher at Micro Center on my way home from work. http://www.microcenter.com/product/408534/29_AOC_q2963Pm__IPS_Widescreen_Monitor

Once I got the drivers installed, I became very happy. Played a few rounds of Crysis 3 and BF3 to test her out. So far so good. And at $200 less than the LG model, the price was right. If these went on sale, I could see a second and third one coming home with me.
