More than 5 years since launch, the Epic Game Store has still not turned profitable

I don't know, I just played the tribes 3 test (on steam) and I believe it has easy anti-cheat and didn't see any prompts about epic.

They are hoping that by giving out lots of stuff, people will switch. They seem to forget if you want people to switch you need to be at least as good, if not better. Otherwise people will take the free shit, but not come back to spend money.

It’s not just that but younger people who don’t have large steam libraries could very well have a sizeable Epic library. Why would I switch to Epic when I have so many titles in Steam already, similarity why would they switch to Steam when they already have so many games in Epic?

Epic is taking the hook them young approach, it’s proven to work, if they can survive the time it takes to make it work.

perhaps, but its not like steam isn't growing and getting new users also. it will be interesting to see the stats at the end of 2023, but in 2022 steam had an avg of 83k first time buyers every single day in 2022.... that seems insane to me. https://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamworks/announcements/detail/3677786186779762808

How many of those are “new” accounts or just users creating a second account for their porn game collections?
Because concurrent user numbers have not at all kept pace with new accounts created.
But PC Gaming as a whole increased it's user base substantially in the past 3 years.
