I've had this router for a couple of years and I've had nothing but problems with it. I've tried various builds of DD-WRT and the stock firmware and I still have tons of problems- mostly with the wifi.

I just moved a couple of months ago and I need to run the router as the base for a client bridge config. With the 3200 as my main router I constantly drop all my wired networked devices on all the routers. Doesn't matter what build of DD-WRT or stock firmware I'm running. I purchased an Asus TM-AC1900 and flashed it to Merlin and tried that as a base but the throughput was way too slow. Same goes for an old wrt1200ac. In the end the Verizon provided Quantum G1100 does the best job as the base- ironic because it has no external antennas and is pretty bare bones.

The wrt3200acm (and 32x) might look good on paper but in practice it's crap. I really don't understand how Linksys can have a product out for years and have it still be unstable.

Hate to say it unifi security gw plus ac pro access point.
To go along with what Vengance said, here is my exact recommendation in the Ubiquiti lineup. This will take a little more time than your regular consumer-grade network equipment. There are plenty of articles and videos out there so don't feel overwhelmed!

Grab a Ubiquiti Edgerouter X: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0144R449W
Pair it with a wireless AC access point: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PR20GY
If you don't absolutely need AC, you can save about $10with: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HXT8R2O

Don't forget to use the [H] referral link if you're going to be purchasing from Amazon (click this link before purchasing on Amazon for it to work) ;) https://www.amazon.com/?tag=hardfocom-20

I was thinking about buying a Ubiquity access point before. I don't need anything elaborate- I just need to be able to get my network to my PC, media center in livingroom and bedroom. Unfortunately my building is too old to really wire up properly.

I need a stable enough connection to stream 4k UHD rips off my NAS. Doable? Apartment is only 900sq ft but it's a 130 school building- brick and cement walls.

The Ubiquiti products I linked are probably your best shot at accomplishing it. Since the AP is separate from the router, you have more options in terms of mounting location and aiming too. Good luck! Let us know how it turns out!

I can't recommend the edge router. I would get USG as it all integrates all with the same software. Just make sure you have a small switch ikf your not going to segment your traffic via VLANs

The single pane of glass is nice, but that's all the USG is going to get you- at twice the price. And it's not like the Edgerouter series are hard to set up, if someone already has *-WRT experience.

I have a friend with all the Ubiquity hardware and the whole setup is really nice. I personally have a fondness for pfSense so I have that running on a little PCEngines APU2 for a firewall and a UniFi AC Pro for an Access Point. I'll never buy consumer grade hardware or any sort of all-in-one appliance ever again.

I'm learning pfSense (slowly), so I picked up something similar, though I intend to keep the Edgerouter 4 in place; it's my safety net for when I screw up :D

I have generally had some good success using this site as a resource for picking the right router. It seems they really seem to like the Netgear Nighthawk 7800. But they also have some highly ranked routers with fewer options that are much more affordable if that is an issue.
