Is GSync worth upgrading for on its own?

I have an old Dell 24" 1920 x 1200 monitor that I'm honestly pretty happy with. Recently got a 1070 and games look pretty stunning. That said, I find myself annoyed by tearing and such, and wouldn't mind a monitor that can make everything pop more.

Is it worth investing in a gsync monitor?

My gsync experience:
Witcher on max settings. About 50-70fps. Test just by rotating slowly with a stick on a controller.

Without gsync - tearing, stutter, slowdowns. vsync helps but introduce a lot of lag. Slowdowns and stutter still remain.
Gsync - smooth as butter experience without any tearing, lag, slowdowns or stutter. I was like - "Finally, after 20 years of gaming"

Easy answer, it's amazing. Went from the same monitor (close enough) as OP to the one in my sig. One of my best purchases ever, I could not be happier.

Another in the Yes Category. I play on my TN GSYNC over my IPS 75Hz or my 4K much better looking monitors.

I'm pretty miffed that Nvidia choose to gate off adaptive sync to 144hz 1080p TN and expensive high refresh 1440p, 3440x1440 and 4K monitors (4K still stuck on 60hz for now).
144hz already takes care of most of the tearing and some of the smoothness issues, so I would argue the tech is more important on 60/75hz monitors.
The main advantage of Freesync is being able to have adaptive sync regardless of whether you buy a high end 34" ultrawide and Vega 64 or a cheapo 1080p monitor and RX550 or even a Raven Ridge APU.

I don't particularly mind G-Sync costing extra if you're buying an expensive monitor. If you know you're going to stick with Nvidia and you have the cash to get a good 1440p 144hz model that can last you for years, then that's a good choice.
Just saying any 1440p 144hz monitor would be a huge upgrade for you regardless, and G-Sync might not be worth the hundreds of bucks you can save going with an IPS or VA model without it

I would suggest you look at all monitors and not just GSync. They sell some very nice 100hz and 144hz gaming monitors for $299 and $350 for a 32" size, curve and non-curve. Often these monitors will say "free-sync" and while true, they also support 100hz, 144hz on nVidia 1070 and 1080 under vsync.

You can get into 1440p 144hz for around $400 to 450 as high as $500 for a 32"

You will pay out the ass for GSync for the same size vs once that's not branded.

Just a suggestion.

Good luck.

Read the Q&A, several questions on FreeSync and GSync and 1070 and 1080 cards, everyone says it doesn't matter.

32" GSync branding is around $800.

Haven't played with freesync so can't really comment..

But even though G-sync is expensive, it's one of the most tangible quality improvements I've experienced.
- If you have the budget then sure.. In fact, I'd be happy with a 1070 and a G-sync monitor vs a non G-Sync monitor and a 1080
