How soon do you expect DDR4 to get within 110% the cost of equivalent DDR3?

Right now DDR4 is insanely expensive compared to DDR3. Obviously it will be more expensive since it's newer, but is there any reason to believe it will get significantly cheaper in the next couple of months? What's keeping the price so high compared to DDR3? What's it going to take for DDR4 to get down to within 110% of DDR4 prices?

Small market. 95+% of users will not touch lga2011-3. Wait till DDR4 is used in Intel's mainstream chips.

Wait for corporations and smaller businesses to replace their Win XP systems.

After both AMD and Intel has mainstream platforms using DDR4.

My guess is holidays 2016 we should see DDR4 prices plummet. By summer 2017 they will be bargain bin prices. We need new chips from Intel and AMD as most of the market is been doing fine on Sandy/Ivy for the last 5 years. Once AMD brings out the big guns (hopefully) in 2016 we will begin to see competition again from Intel which should push sales for new components and ramp up production.

I agree. Right now it's adoption that's a main problem. People have to be able to use the stuff on most setups for the price to go down from a niche, high end product.
