Hot-Swap backplane being weird with seeing and initializing disks.

So I've got a Fujitsu RX200 which has 6 SAS/SATA ports on its backplane (2 connectors) but no matter what configuration I can only get 4 of them to initialize properly whether 4 on the LSI, 2 on the LSI/2 onboard or 4 onboard but not the other 2 disks. The weird thing is the cabling seems to not matter so I can get 2 on one connector and 2 on the other one to show up but not the other 2.

Anyway the non-working disks have the LEDs light up but stay lit whereas the working ones light up then the lights go out.

really strange problem. any suggestions?

What cables are you using to connect?
Sff-8087 to Sff-8087. ?

You sure you have them pushed in all the way? ie on one side of the sff-8087 cable end you will find a little triangle / sometimes diamond shape.... That fits into a little cutout on the metal socket of the backplane connection.
