About to do a system upgrade, need clarification

If I install the following:

1) Intel Core i9-13900KS

2) Kingston Technology Kingston Fury Beast RGB Black 128GB (4x32GB) 5600MT/s

3) Crucial T700 2TB Gen5 NVMe M.2 SSD - Up to 12,400 MB/s (Installed into the M.2_1 slot)

4) WD_BLACK 4TB SN850X (X2 - Raid 1, installed into the M.2_2 and M.2_3 slots)

5) ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX™ 4090 OG OC Edition (because of the M.2_1 slot being used by a Gen 5 SSD, the PCIe 5.0 goes from X16 to X8 (PCIE 5.0 x8 has the same bandwidth as PCIE 4.0 x16 at 32GB/s).

6) ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero (I'm assuming the Dark Hero refresh wouldn't be worth it since I'm using a large mem kit, don't care about WiFi7).

Besides the 2% hit to the 4090 performance will take because of the M.2_1 slot Gen 5 SSD m.2 being active, is there any other downside to the hardware combo above where I'll run into other issues?
 
Just the general concerns about thread scheduling and the E-cores that sometimes get in the way.

I'm not a friend of Crucial. I would get another SN850x for the boot drive, especially if it gives the PCIe lanes back to the graphics card.

But you don't lose a lot by having a PCIe 5.0 X8 running a PCIe 4.0 X16 Card since PCIE 5.0 x8 has the same bandwidth as PCIE 4.0 x16 at 32GB/s. I could understand the argument if I had a PCIe 5.0 Video card (which there are none of yet).

Actually, none of the current GPUs are PCIe 5.0 compliant. Your RTX 4090 still runs at only PCIe 4.0 throughput levels. Thus, you do lose a very small amount of performance by going from PCIe 4.0 x16 down to PCIe 4.0 x8. No PCIe 4.0 x16 card can be set to run at PCIe 5.0 x8 at all - but if something steals the PCIe lanes of your primary GPU slot, it would still be only PCIe 4.0. Not PCIe 5.0.

Thats not how it works, your slot for the card will still be running 4.0, but half of it will deactivate so it will be 4.0x8. There is literally no purpose in going from a 7500mb/s gen 4 drive to a 10000mb/s gen 5 drive because the random speeds where it actually counts are about the same. Unless you're transferring huge files all day for some reason.
 
I run 2x WD_BLACK 1TB SN850 in raid and in 3 out of 4 tests they have beaten a pcie5 single ssd.

Your WD_BLACK 4TB SN850 plays very well as a c drive with all your games on it with "game mode" activated in its "dashboard" software.

All pcie5 ssds this year are simply overclocked old hardware.

Wait for real pcie5 controllers on ssds and not that trash they sell this year please !
 
128GB of DDR5 is not necessarily guaranteed to work at 5600, could be a good chance you'll have to clock lower. both using double rank ram and using 4 sticks tends to lead to problems
