Windows Vista won't install SP2

Yeah, I'm behind the times. Automatic updates was off and I didn't realize it.

Anyway, I go to install SP2 and after a while it will reboot and say "Service Pack did not install".

It didn't give me a reason why nor can I find anywhere why it wouldn't install. I tried it 2 more times and it still didn't work.

Any tricks to try?
 
It may sound lame but do you have SP1 already installed?
 
Yup.

All the other updates appear to have installed without incident.
 
Wow...I don't know what the hell all that is. Should I just copy/paste and let you guys look at it?
 
Well system info is saying SP2 installed this time...I didn't do anything differently but it worked. Weird. Thanks for the help guys.
 
If you made a slipstream disc with nLite/vLite, you have to remove all registry keys pertaining to nLite/vLite otherwise Vista SP2 does not install. (I've had this problem in the past.) Not having much luck finding the link to the particular entries to get rid of, but I think it's just HKLM/Software/nLite or something like that.
 
Could you post the log anyway, just for the heck of it, for us to see what might have went wrong? Who knows, maybe someone else will have this same problem and this could somehow help.

One thing you could've tried is just clearing the downloaded files...

Empty out the %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder (That's just the downloaded files)
and also the Data Store directory (This holds your history... IE, so it knows not to try checking for certain updates... Clearing this Data Store out makes it re-detect everything).

They could've been corrupted or something.

I hadn't tried this with Vista, but I use to do this all the time with any update-failing XP machine. I simply deleted the Software Distribution folder, but I had to stop the Automatic Updates service first.

I'm sure it'd work... I haven't had to do it on Vista either, so I wasn't sure if deleting the whole SD directory would be bad or not. I know it's not on XP, but wasn't sure on Vista so I couldn't suggest the whole thing!
