what was THE game or games that made you buy a particular console? I'm not talking about games that were cool after you bought the console, I'm talking about the game that sold you the system.

for me:
Saturn - Nights, Panzer Dragoon Zwei
Gameboy color - Pokemon Red
N64 - Goldeneye, Zelda
PSone - Grandia, Guitar Freaks
Gamecube - Resident Evil 4
PStwo - We <3 Katamari, Shadows of the Colossus
Sega CDX - Lunar series

I bought 2 DS's and a Dreamcast too but it wasnt because a game made me want them when i had originally bought them, they came much later.

Genesis: Mortal Kombat 3
GameBoy: Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
GBA: Golden Sun
PS1: Final Fantasy VII
PS2: Sequels to beloved PS1 RPGs
Dreamcast: Soul Calibur
PSP: Wipeout Pure

After my Dreamcast broke I decided to just get a Gamecube rather than another DC for the better graphics and because it also had Sonic games (I'm a huge sonic fan.). So I guess you could say that Sonic Adventure DX and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle kind of lured me into getting the Gamecube.

Gamboy Color = Pokemon
Gameboy Advance = Advance Wars
Dreamcast = Powerstone
Gamecube (1st time I bought it) = Resident Evil 0 / Metroid Prime
Gamecube (2nd time I bought one) = Metroid Prime 2
Gamecube (3rd time I bought one) = Resident Evil 4
PSP = Lumines/Ridge Racer

Im gonna be forced to buy a next gen console once I see Sonic on them. Damn consoles. If only Sega still made consoles...

Playstation=Resident Evil 2
Playstation 2=Tekken Tag Tournament but Kingdom Hearts made me glad I bought it

I only own a Gamecube for Metroid Prime...which I couldn't even bother to finish.

Now I only use it to play my Kingdom Hearts, chain of memories...well, I did. If I could find my gamecube.

PS2 is the only console this generation that I really cared for, and bought it just for the sake it was the next PS and have been overly impressed and happy with my purchase.

Gamecube = Smash Brothers Melee, thats the only game that I ever bought a console singly for it, even though I think I might pick up fire emblem soon.

N64 = SSB
PS2 = Beats the hell out of me....Why did I buy it?
SNES = Donkey Kong Country
Dreamcast = Shenmue, and cause it was only $80 new.

Nintendo DS = Castlevania - Dawn of Sorrow

maybe the best castlevania ever, ranks right next to symphony of the night

Gamecube = Metroid Prime
Game Boy Advance = Castlevania - Circle of the Moon

Sypdermonkey - Katamari and God Of War should be on the PS2's list :)

Purchased for:
NES - Super Mario Bros
SNES - Super Mario World / Mario Paint (hehe)
N64 - Mario 64
Dreamcast - Soul Calibre
Game Boy Advance - bought it late, hundreds of games, including Zelda LttP again
PS2 - "toy story graphics" (and the promise of Final Fantasy)
Gameboy SP - I bought my brother a DS for X-mas and took it. hahaha (FF: CC? lol)
Gamecube - Smash Bros and Rogue Squadron II

Edit: I found this on another forum, and thought the sentiment to be relevant:
I used to bash on the GC until my friend and the first party games forced me to buy it. Let me tell you there isnt a console out that maintains the old school feel like my GC does. Kind of hard to explain, but when you play a GC first party game you know your playing a quality game that was published not just for the revenue it would bring, but because the developer really loved the game and wanted to make it great. By all means dont let the naysayers sway you, although i really hate cellshading i still think the new zelda kicked arse. This console is worth every penny, and I highly recommend it.

Nes - Zelda, and because I was 8 and really wanted it. Came with the Robot

Snes - mario world, FF4 and 6

Genesis was the lil' bros, never really dug it, but sonic was awesome.

Dreamcast - Sonic adventure, Soul Calibur

PSone - Final fantasy 9, then 7, then chrono cross, then the anthology. Wild 9 was fun too.

PS2 - Final Fantasy X was what drove me to it ( pattern forming here...)

Xbox - Had to buy one, had to have Halo, because all my friends had it. Now it's used to play roms, primarily.

Gamecube - Mario Sunshine, RE remakes, Mario Kart, F-zero

Xbox 360 - remains to be seen.

PS3 - Any final fantasy

DS/GBA - Kingdom Hearts

Revolution - Gotta complete the Trifecta, but it's going to be because of Mario, and Mario Kart

Xbox- Ninja Gaiden
NES- Battle Toads
Genesis- Sonic
N64 - Perfect Dark/ Conker's Bad Fur day
Gamecube- Super Smash Brothers Melee/ Resident Evil 4
Playstation 2- TimeSplitters
GBA- Castlevania series/ Legend of Zelda- The minish cap
PSP- Movie playback (actually, I bought it for my fiance)
My first PC- Doom II
Built my first PC- Command and Conquer
2nd PC - Total Annihilation/Red Alert 2
3rd PC - Command and Conquer Generals/ Zero Hour
4th PC - Doom 3/ Half-Life 2
5th PC - FEAR, CoD2, Dark Messiah
Xbox360 - Kameo/Perfect Dark Zero

ahh, battletoads brings back some memories... painful ones. i had actually stolen money from my sister by climbing thru her window when everyone was out. then took the bus to k-mart and bought the game. everyone came back, sis found missing money, and i forgot about the chair and bucket i used to get thru the window. my sis was crying, i get yelled at and was forced to pay her back. took me about 4 months to do that since i was only 11 and accrued a menial allowance.

even so, battletoads is still one of THE hardest games of all time.

Lol, BUSTED!!

Yeah, that game was pretty tough. If you didn't use the warp zones right, there is almost no way you can make it through those levels. The hardest one for me was the Elevator board, and the one following that one, where you are in the pipes and have to swim. That part where you are on a jet plane is tough too.

I only just picked up Katamari Damacy, the first game my mom actually played with me, and I haven't picked up God of War yet, but I had the playstation underground demo disk and it seemed like a good game. I did just plop down about 40 at ebgames for a guncon2, time crisis 3 and an extra dreamcast controller. I gotta say, I love them lightgun shooters :D

NES - Super Mario Bros.
SNES - Super Mario World
N64 - Mario 64, Waverace
Gamecube - Waverace (though it wasn't as good as the N64 version, it's why I bought the cube)
Nintendo DS - the promise of a new Mario platformer
PS1 - FF7
PS2 - Gran Turismo 3
PSP - Wipeout Pure (loved Wipeout XL, had to get this one)
Genesis - Sonic
Sega CD - The "Lunar" Series (Check out the PS1 releases, if you get a chance)
32x - Virtua Fighter
Saturn - Panzer Dragoon (Best shooter)
Dreamcast - Soul Caliber (Best fighter)

No Neo-Geo, Phillips CD-I, 3DO or Jaguar owners? I never had any of these either, just wondering if some of you out there might have. We all make mistakes. :p

2nd PS2: GTA:SA
DS: I have no clue, but I dont regret it at all.

SNES - Street Fighter
PSone - Final Fantasy VII and Tobal #1 (for the FFVII demo)
Gamecube - Resident Evil 0/1/4

NES - Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt
SNES - Super Mario World and Mario Paint
Playstation - Destruction Derby :D

I'll admit to buying a TurboGrafx for Bonk.

My buddy bought it from me so he could get the Turbo-duo.

ROFL.
