I have not had an issues, but I wanted to make sure I have these APs set up correctly.

I have (2) Linksys WRT300N routers set to act as APs in my house.

Each one is on the opposite side of the house.

Both have DHCP turned off since I have an untangle box as my main router.

AP-1
  • Radio Band: Wide - 40MHz Channel
  • Wide Channel: 4
  • Standard Channel: 2 - 2.417 GHZ

AP-2
  • Radio Band: Wide - 40MHz Channel
  • Wide Channel: 8
  • Standard Channel: 10 - 2.457 GHZ

You should really only use channels 1, 6, and 11. Otherwise, you get overlap. Obviously, you have nothing in between, but your neighbors may.

This is good information to have. Is there anywhere I can get more details or can you explain what happens with overlap. I want to get an optimized setup but understand it at the same time

We have no neighbors, very rural area ( 1 mile away is closest neighbor) :)

Assuming you are using 2.4Ghz you only have two choices if you want full bandwidth, those are channels 1 and 11.

In 40mhz mode those channels will consume spectrum all the way to channel 6. Effectively leaving no other free channels.

Okay, here is the new setting

AP1

40Ghz Channel 3
2.4Ghz Channel 1

AP2
40Ghz Channel 4
2.4Ghz Channel 6
