First 120 Hz IPS monitor: Mitsubishi MDT231WG

Just in before the "DO WANT" spamming begins. :D

EDIT: Until I saw the estimated price....

EDIT: Not TRUE 120hz! To save readers time and unnecessary bumpage.

wow that's awesome
price sure is hefty but still affordable imo

if they didn't fuck up input lag or backlighting on that one i'll definitely save for a few months and import one

I'm sure this took all the other IPS companies and 120hz companies by surprise.

I'd sure like to see some input lag tests and pixel response rate checks on this. Price feels too high though for the size and resolution. At 2560x1440, 27in, 120hz that'd be a bargain but for that size and resolution, maybe 700$?

If they could get that down to $500-600 I'd consider selling my U2410s..

Is it 16:10 or 16:9? I hope 16:10, I refuse to give up my extra vertical space.

I think it's 1920x1080, so 16:9 :(... if only it were 16:10!!! This is awesome to see though and drool-worthy regardless, I really want to see something like a 27" 2560x1440 IPS 120hz or 30" 2560x1600 120hz IPS. THAT is something I would save my pennies for...

And a lot of pennies you would need. ;)

Until display connections change you won't see this high of a resolution at 120hz supported due to bandwidth limitations.

Hopefully if DisplayPort 2.0 becomes standard this will be a reality. Of course I'm sure Metro 2063 will come out and take the video cards of that day down to 30 fps which will make it moot anyway :D

I'm suprised LG implemented the additional signal lines to make 120Hz possible. This shows that they are really determined to take IPS out of the Colour/CAD sector and make it mainstream.

I think that this monitor is still 60hz native, not 120hz native.
For example, look at the specifications on this page:

http://www.e-trend.co.jp/pcaux/9/1552/product_293593.html

More specifically:
垂直周波数 56~76Hz
This says "Vertical (Scan) Frequency 56-76Hz".
In other words, no higher than 76 hz.

Granted, this is a spec page provided by a retailer,
so there could be inaccuracies.

From what I can gather, all "120hz" modes are simply
modes extrapolated from 60hz source material.
For example, I don't see any mention in the specs
for requiring dual-link DVI. Thus I don't think this
is a "true" 120hz monitor.

The price tag would only make sense for a real 120hz screen. We'll see.

The 5.6 ms response time even if accurate doesn't give pixels much time before transitioning to the next color though, so there might be very heavy trails.

bad news:
the mdt231wg is just another 60hz screen with fake 120/240hz interpolation
link makes it very obvious :(

Confirmed worthless.

Kuriapikucha speed (speed CP)

The super-resolution technology and speed of the frame interpolation, 120 videos, "smooth and Kukkiri."

Predicted to produce new video footage from the motion of the usual 60 frames, 120 frames interpolated twice. Reproduce fast-moving images smoothly.

They want $1400 for some crappy 23" 120Hz interpolation? lol

The press release PDF on Mitsubishi's site also lists the same scanning frequencies.
http://www.mitsubishielectric.co.jp/news/2010/1116-a.html

In other words, this is a standard 60hz monitor that happens to have some 120hz interpolation. Nothing to see here, move along...

Sounds more like a TV then a computer display. Sense when has Mitsubishi's been making computer displays? Also the reviews of their TVs on AVS arn't so good either.

I had an wonderful 19" Diamondtron from Mitsubishi throughout my college years and then a few years after that. I long for the days of high FPS and high image quality once again. 60 FPS just doesn't cut it for me.

Mitsubishi made high end CRT monitors, but I don't think they've ever had a top-selling LCD monitor.

Price was too high to start but seeing that its fake 120hz... lol. Samsung 120hz epicness right around the corner though! May cant get here fast enough!!!

Actually, this is incorrect. DP 1.2 has 17.28 Gbit/s of bandwith, and a 2560x1600@120hz screen would need 14.745 Gbit/s of bandwith, so you could drive it easily with a DP connection. :)
