8800GT -> 9800GT -> GTS 240

yeah early adopters of the 8800gtx and 8800gt sure had the changes to get there money worth.

The card will still run WoW nicely, so its not a problem throwing it in prebuilt OEM's (large, general public playing large, general public games). Its just annoying how Nvidia has to rebrand it like that.

the G92 is coming close to 2 years since the first 8800gt and theyre still releasing 'new' card with it eh.
Has any other GPU lasted this long?

well actually the 240 is/ will technically be a rebranded 8800/9800gt but with higher clocks, so it will probably perform inbetween a 9800gt and a gts 250. would probably be comparable to a 4770.

8800GT is not an "early adopter" product - it's for "good value for money" budget customers who buy mature, proven products. It's just a mature budget variation of the 8800GTX, which was a real "early adoptor" card representing new technology when it first came out.

But yes, the fact that the 8800GTX variations "still" continue, shows what a great card it was.

I think its more of "Oh shit. We actually didn't fuck this series up too much.. lets keep this 8 thing going for a couple more years while ATI is choking on their shitty 3 series".

Well the HD3000 series was definitely a step forward which led to the HD4000 series. It wasn't as good as what Nvidia had to offer at the time but it wasn't shitty. Now the 2000 series was the shitty series..
