ok, best performance for Team fortress 2? (its DX9) choose a card for me, i have both. they are on the same tier on Toms-Hardware. my cpu is a Q6600 G0. disregard heat and power consumption.

7900gs (PNY)
* 450MHz Core Clock
* 256-bit Memory Interface
* 1.32GHz Memory Data Rate (effective)
* 42.2 GB/Sec. Memory Bandwidth
* 10.8 Billion Pixels/sec. Fill Rate
* 822.5 Million Vertices/sec. Setup
* 20 Pixels per clock (peak)
* Dual 400MHz RAMDACs
* 256 DDR3
* DX9
* OGL 2.0

9500gt (EVGA)
* 550 MHz Core Clock
* 128 bit Memory Interface
* 1Ghz Memory Data Rate (effective)
* 16.0 GB/sec.Memory Bandwidth
* 8.8 Billion Pixels/sec. Fill Rate
* 16 Pixels per clock (peak)
* 512 DDR2
* DX10
* OGL 2.1

could i run the 7900, with the 9500 for PhysX when i use Autodesk Maya? would that increase Maya performance?

My advice: Sell both and get a $50 9600GT on the forums.

The 7900gs would be faster but would also be limited to DirectX 9

The 9500GT might be able to pull ahead if you run at a very high resolution, as 256mb doesn't go very far these days.

in general the 9500gt is faster in modern games than the 7900gs but as for TF 2 specifically I have no idea. I would just sell both of those cards and get something decent.

EDIT: a stock 9500gt would easily smoke the 7900gs in TF 2 as its dead even with the 7900gtx. heck an overclocked 9500gt is easily beating a 7900gtx. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Galaxy/GeForce_9500_GT_Overclocked/18.html

At a recent LAN party, I brought a spare machine with a 7800GTX and a friend's PC had a Geforce 9500 something or other.

I found that the 7800GTX inexplicably struggled in a few games even at minimum settings with long pauses and stutters, whereas the 9500 chugged on quite consistently at low settings. In other games they performed fairly equally (mostly in older games, it must be said). Not sure if it's driver issues or the 256MB video RAM limiting it, but it surely can't be the GPU power

edit, lol, just realised this is a resurrected thread
