That’s really odd.I really hope someone here has a solution. I've spent 12 hours today trying to solve this issue.
I read here and on Reddit about how Intel iGPUs can do interlacing, so I bought a new motherboard and an i5 13600k to use interlacing on my IBM P275. I have a 6900 XT as well that I'm using. Set it up and made some interlaced resolutions. I was blown away by the clarity at 2400 x 1800i at 120 Hz. Played Helldivers 2 and had a great time. Thought I would try Halo and it unfortunately went to black screen. Wasn't sure what that was about but after that, every game that I've tried it crashes. My PC just will not switch from my iGPU to my 6900 XT. Just to clarify, Windows 11 lets you choose which GPU you want to use. I was connected to my IGPU, using it to display interlaced resolutions while the games render on my 6900 XT.
It doesn't matter if I tell it which specific GPU in the Windows graphics settings. It just doesn't work. I uninstalled and reinstalled both Intel and AMD drivers. Tried multiple different versions of each. It will not work. It will start the games if I specify iGPU but will not use the 6900 XT. I can't switch in the middle of a game either.
Looked for BIOS settings, tried changing the iGPU to primary. That didn't work. Downloaded the latest motherboard drivers. Didn't work. It's the same black screen everytime. GPU fans don't spin. For some reason the iGPU is not communicating to the 6900XT anymore.
Again, it did work initially but after a crash it hasn't worked again.
Anyone have any ideas? My last resort is a Windows reinstall but I really would prefer not, as I have SSDs full of family videos and pictures I would have to deal with. I'm not even sure if this would solve the issue?
Yeah but it doesn’t have analog output. 380x would be better as an analog GPU. Very high pixel clock ceilingQuestion, does RX 580 support interlaced resolution?
the 580 is stronger, smaller and cheaper in my country xdddd , does it support interlacing with the newest drivers or will i have to resort to old drivers to use interlacing on it?Yeah but it doesn’t have analog output. 380x would be better as an analog GPU. Very high pixel clock ceiling
I don't know.the 580 is stronger, smaller and cheaper in my country xdddd , does it support interlacing with the newest drivers or will i have to resort to old drivers to use interlacing on it?
I think in the past few pages you can read from a couple people who have done this.Dumb question. Is it possible to have a powerful GPU like an RTX perform all the rendering, and then send the output to another video card in the system with analog output?

900+900 on that vertical axis is exactly within the perfect range in which your monitor's actual hardware can natively resolve that resolution http://www.dansdata.com/danletters088.htmReplying to myself in case anyone else here comes looking for the same issue. After spending probably 20 hours trying different drivers, BIOS updates, Chat GPT suggestions, a fresh Windows install, reseating the GPU and performing memtest, I finally figured out the issue. It's my AMD 6900 XT. Decided to try out a 1080 ti I had laying around from a previous build, and it worked perfectly. Unfortunately, as per usual, AMD has its quirks.
Using 2400 x 1800i at 120 Hz now on the 1080 ti. Looks and feels great. Still can't get any Gamepass games to work, unfortunately. Even if I set a specific GPU for the Xbox app, it defaults to the higher performance one (AMD), which causes the game to crash every time. If a game in Steam was previously set to the 6900 XT, I have to connect directly to the 1080 ti, launch the game, change the GPU in the in game display options, power off, and then connect to iGpu. It then works. Leaving behind AMD in this next generation.
This res looks sharper than any progressive that I've used. Not sure if it's because I'm still far below my bandwith limit or what.
Yes it's a known issue, this is what a guy said in a review on Startech website (at the bottom of this page):Is anyone familiar with an issue with the DP2VGAHD20 converter causing issues with dual monitors? It seems to be stuck in a loop of constantly disconnecting and reconnecting. While using the CRT it works great. If I switch back to my main ultrawide LCD monitor (HDMI) there are a host of issues. I experience periodic black screens in games that are playing in full screen. Also in display settings and the nvidia control panel are constantly refreshing the info displayed. In device manager both my CRT and LCD will disappear and reappear constantly. There is no issue using the LCD otherwise. I can browse the web and be on the desktop and experience no flickering or refreshing. Using both monitors at the same time using extended or duplicate eliminates the issue, or using the CRT only I don't have any of these issues. Its a pain because the only solution I found is to disconnect the DP2VGAHD20 when using my main LCD monitor.
I came across similar posts here and here but I'm not sure if they are the same issue or not.
Well I reached Justin, the team's Technical Lead, and he went above and beyond for me.
Thanks for that info! I went through Startech chat support and chatted with Trudian and described my problem. He pointed out multiple times this converter is not meant for gaming. I emphasized the issues are occurring not on my CRT using the converter while I'm gaming but on my other LCD monitor both in Windows and when I'm gaming on that monitor. He offered me a case number to submit an RMA claim. I submitted the claim to do a replacement and am waiting for a response back with further instructions. I did try to ask if they knew why this issue was occurring but they didn't reply to that question.Yes it's a know issue, this is a part of a review on Startech website (at the bottom of this page):
...
We need to know how they solved the problem, if with a hardware change or a firmware update, maybe you can ask Startech about it, linking the review on that page.

What I've written between "" is the review of that guy on Startech website, it's not me, I edited my previous post to be more clear. While you had him on the line, did you happen to broach the subject of producing higher pixel clock adapters, like 450-600mHz range? I imagine it's just a matter finding the right chipset, which Startech is equipped to do
What does a video adapter have to do with gaming? Thanks for that info! I went through Startech chat support and chatted with Trudian and described my problem. If anyone goes down this route I would describe the issue like the review from the startech website posted above. Its when the CRT is disabled that causes the reconnect cycle. The fact it causes my LCD to black out when gaming during the same reconnect cycle is secondary. I purchased this unit in 2021 and have had this issue since day 1 I just dealt with it by not using the adapter most of the time. It'd be nice to leave it connected so I can easily bounce back and forth between monitors. Using 1 monitor at a time works best for me with how games will force themselves to be fullscreen on my LCD rather than my CRT monitor and it messes up all my desktop icons constantly using it that way.
Its a shame they say this adapter is not meant for gaming use as it is the best easily obtainable adapter on the market currently. Its the only adapter out of the 4 or so that I have that can handle every resolution I throw at it for my CRT. My portta doesn't have high enough pixel clock and gets this nasty green fringing when that happens. The HDFury2 I have had issues but I can't remember what it was now its been sitting in a box for ages. I guess if this doesn't work I can try that again. I need up to around 300mhz pixel clock and I think the HDFury2 tops out at 200mhz or less. I'll post an update once the RMA process proceeds further. I don't think I will get an answer as to what the problem/fix is from Startech however.
Probably nothing. It's their way of looking for an easy way out to close the ticket. "User states adapter is being used for gaming - not supported. Case closed."What does a video adapter have to do with gaming?
That's what I do when I have to get support for something (whenever possible). The last time I had to explain something at length I got hung up on and it had to go higher up the chain.Probably nothing. It's their way of looking for an easy way out to close the ticket. "User states adapter is being used for gaming - not supported. Case closed."
You are 100% right in not giving all the info to commoner tech support. Let them figure it out. No need to provide extra details which are irrelevant. Should have just left it as: Video port 1 is my monitor 1. Video port 2 is your adapter and another monitor. When port 2 is disabled, ports 1 and 2 cycle between disabled and enabled in device manager. Happens on 2 pcs. Now fix it."
Ha. You get hung up on because they get intimidated and don't want to sound like they have no clue what they are talking about since they don't. So the call "accidentally" drops. If you got a real tech person, even if they heard you say you use it for gaming, they probably wouldn't even mention that to get a resolution on it. Sadly, some companies force agents to go through steps before going on to the next. I've seen the old Comcast model where the screen wouldn't allow you to move on to the next step of troubleshooting unless they provided an answer. A smart tech would just blow through the questions without asking if they know the answer, but the rest of the tech drones will blindly ask you. That's what I do when I have to get support for something (whenever possible). The last time I had to explain something at length I got hung up on and it had to go higher up the chain.
Did you try to restart the video driver after that reconnect loop starts?
If I remember correctly, another user solved it that way.
You can try as a last hope with the manual restart:I just tested using the CRU restart functionality and it didn't work for me.
Startech is shipping me out a new unit I don't even have to send the bad one in. Lesson learned though don't mention gaming when describing the issue. Luckily the tech I chatted with seemed technically literate and could understand the issue. I'll post an update when I get the replacement unit.
I actually managed to get it to work for a few days with the 6900XT. Then Windows decided to update my IGPU drivers on its own and it quit working once again. Nothing I do will fix it. Bought a 4080. 380x has the same 400Hz DAC as all of R200-300s. There hasn't been a single GPU since ATi 9700 era with 500/+ Hz DAC, that's why everyone here always recommended people to use Sunix DPU3000-D4 and DeLock-iCYBox rebranded adapters. Only those 3 adapters with HQ RAMDAC over 535Hz default.Yeah but it doesn’t have analog output. 380x would be better as an analog GPU. Very high pixel clock ceiling

That's a well-known software solution/3rd-party workaround I've noticed years back. Hardware implementation is what I meant.Google "Toasty X pixel clock patcher"
You can try with ITE Tech: [email protected] Chipset IT6564If anyone has a unit with that connect/disconnect loop problem, I strongly advise to bother Startech quickly and demand a replacement when you're still within the 3 years warranty period.
I personally did contact them by email simply asking for a mean to update the firmware of the faulty adapters, the answer I got is pathetic: Ohh, we're really sorry, that's too bad, you're out of the warranty period and we can't replace it.
Nothing in the conversation does let imagine they may come back with a solution for users to fix a serie they know has been faulty from the start, when a simple firmware update shouldn't be any difficult. I think my contact just dropped the line. A real shame of a company.
I'm afraid they can't, and it's not their job anyway. As far as I understood, they provide a chip with embedded flash and some preprogrammed data, then it's up to the manufacturer to set everything properly, and an update, if possible, depends on the chip's implementation. If the manufacturer fixes a bug in newer versions but doesn't provide the firmware, the older version's owners are just screwed up.You can try with ITE Tech: [email protected] Chipset IT6564
If it's a thing fixable with a new microcode maybe they can help you.
BANNED.Just checking in on my favorite non-soapbox thread here. Keep it going ladies and gentlemen. Y'all are rocking it. I just sold my last PC CRT monitor and gave away my Quantum Data 801GG to a fellow monitor nerd. Hopefully it gets some more love.
I didn't get any new display. I've been downsizing and decluttering. My kinds don't care about this kind of stuff. I care more about spending time with them. By the time they're out of the house these monitors will be at least 30 years old. No sense in hoarding them to myself.BANNED.
What display did you end up getting? I’m going to build a new office where the gaming PC is going, and I’ve tapped the idea of selling the FW900 to finally be with a new screen.
Not sure I understand. Wouldn't they be 30 regardless of who has them? Was it that you just didn't have a good place to set it up?I didn't get any new display. I've been downsizing and decluttering. If you mean non-CRT, maybe check out a used LG CX? (Or a new one if by some miracle.) If used, make sure it is low hours and such.BANNED.

My CRT's all hailed from the early 2000's. The last of their breed (except for my recapped PVM - that one is from 1996?). So yeah they're only in their early 20s at this point. By the time my youngest two are coming to leave the house well... yeah I guess I did the math wrong. 40 years old. You get the point though. Not sure I understand. Wouldn't they be 30 regardless of who has them? Was it that you just didn't have a good place to set it up?
Family and friends of course are ultimately all that matter though.
She's too pretty to resist .Cast thee off the shackles of glowing phosphor temptation!
But wait, the PVM yet survives in thy care? And thus lives the promise of a new retro day?
Not for long. She's for sale. So is the 9-incher.Cast thee off the shackles of glowing phosphor temptation!
