And I also found out that my arctic F9 pwm fans have a really annoying drone sound if they are mounted directly to the top plate.
Not sure if they weird drone noise is a arctic problem or not. Otherwise I will have to add a spacer that is 4-5mm, but that was not really part of the plan.
Yeah think it was slightly better, but the drone sound was still there if the fan was mounted directly to the top plate. If I turn the fan around so it pushes air out instead of pulling air in the sounds becomes less audible.Did you ever test them running vertically to see if they act the same? Because fluid dynamic bearings are just fancier sleeve bearings, and depending on the quality, can exhibit similar behaviors/limitations, such as making more noise when mounted horizontally instead of vertically. I would stick to ball or maglev bearing fans for horizontal installations.
