So does this automatically mean I broke the CPU? I do not see any visible pins bent, but thought I would ask.

AM4? Happens all the time, Shouldn't be a problem as long as you pulled straight up and didn't bend any pins.

I use a hair dryer to warm up the sink, then give it a little twist and it'll pop off without pulling the CPU out of the socket. Always happens with AM4/AM3.

This is normal. Easiest way to minimize is take it apart hot, after using it some to get it warmed up before you sit it down for maintenance

This same thing happened to me, the heatsink felt like it was glued on the cpu on my cousins PC. CPU came out with it, almost had a heart attack, but everything was fine.

I never had a AM4 system myself so didn't realize it can happen either.

I also recommend warming it up. Do a cinebench run then shut down

I did the twist trick and it popped right off. I did not know that AM4 CPU's had that issue.

I installed it on my new MB and booted right up. So no damage. Thanks for the advice gents.
