Sheesh, NOW you guys chime in. XP Mobile 2400+ sounds like what I want. Now, here's a question... since you say that the 2400+ would run like a 2.4ghz processor would, what does it run like if I overclock it to (for example) a true 2.4ghz? Man, I told myself I WOULD NOT overclock this...

Well, for one thing, it's a lot cheaper than a P4. I'm a college student so if I'm paying less that's always a good thing. :) I knew AMD would be cheaper but I didn't know if the heat they produced would be low enough, but then again as I'd mentioned I wasn't even aware there WAS a mobile XP. :)

I'm replacing a Tbird 1.2ghz system. That's fast enough for me so anything that's faster is fine. I want as little heat as possible as I'll be watercooling with a passive radiator and I'd just prefer to have it as cool as possible. The mobile XP sounds like it'll suit my needs. And if I do ever...

Nope, not a thread crap.... I don't know anything about newer processors, I stopped paying attention after building my current (1.2ghz AXIA TBird) setup. I had a thread in General Hardware asking for opinions/facts about which processors produced less heat but not everyone goes there. Those guys...

I'm old school, I don't like that "3000+" stuff. I still go by clock speed as "comparable". :p

Okay, I'm building a system right now in a very tight space. It'll be watercooled with a PASSIVE system, IE my radiator won't have air moving though it, it'll just... radiate. :p I've decided to go with a Pentium 4 (originally thinking Northwood) as it has, from most accounts, less heat output...

Yeah, I knew the T-birds ran hot, didn't really know the XPs were any better. I kind of stopped paying attention to PC news when I got into cars, oops. ;) For comparison, what are you using to cool your processors, air? I'm assuming an upgraded (not OEM) HSF?

I want a quiet system, and I'm working in a VERY cramped space. I've got about 1.5", MAXIMUM, above the processor with pretty much any motherboard. I could use a 1U HSF but as I'm not sure how much airflow I'll be able to get through the case watercooling is, in my opinion, the only feasible...

I'd suggest cutting the leather and cloth with a razorblade or something, removing them, then cutting the metal and wood with something else. Once you've got your hole, treat the edges of the cloth and leather with some superglue, applied with a modeling brush. That's the best idea I can come up...

why is it a waste? it's my choice to use water vs. air cooling for my projects if I want to. I asked for advice with finding a block, not for you to try and sway my choice of cooling method. :)

well, looking at how thin the base of the koolance is and that it's total height is 1.1"... it probably wouldn't fit. 90 degree elbows are just too tall. :(

exactly. I'm just looking for a solution for cooling in a tight space, and not overclocking... seems like the perfect (alright, and only :p) block for the job. The small tubing is nice as well but not ABSOLUTELY necessary, I've got a decent amount of horizontal room to work with... just not...

Actually, after looking around, the Koolance CPU-300-H06 looks like it might be what I'm looking for. 1.1" tall which is about perfect, with horizontal fittings. only uses 1/4" ID hose, but I'm not going to be overclocking, I just need the cooling and it should be just fine for a stock processor. :)

...has barbs coming from the SIDE of the block, and not from the top. Basically I'm working on a project that requires the CPU be placed in an area with about 1.5" of vertical clearance above it. Watercooling is the only way to go, and the barbs obviously can't stick out of the top. Now...
