Ended up snagging a 60"x30" desk, with a bookshelf underneath, in great shape for $10 off Craigslist. $10! The same guy also had a 71x24 + 71x21 L-shaped hardwood maple desk listed for $50, but I wouldn't have had a way to transport it, unfortunately. College surplus Craigslist deals are...
I don't watch Linus. lol. The GPU is the most important part (to most people) of the graphics card - so people often refer to their graphics card as "gpu" for the sake of convenience. Sorry this upsets you because people didn't do it 25 years ago
the terms "GPU" and "graphics card" are used interchangeably to refer to the same thing. GPU is just faster to type and say. stop looking so far into it
I'd be using it for occasional GIS processing in ArcPro. I'm pretty happy with my setup now (5600 + rx 6600) but I have another build I could use those parts in while upgrading my CPU in this build and the GPU in the other (which currently has a 1660ti in it)
I've recently come across a couple listings for a secondhand i7 12700kf for $140 and an XFX RX 6600 for $100. How well would these pair together? I'm currently running a Ryzen 5600; how noticeable of an uplift would performance be between these two CPUs? I don't really play any super-demanding...
Any other suggestions? Ikea doesnt seem to offer delivery for their countertops and the nearest store is 100 miles away, so that might not be the best option
I'm in the market for a medium-sized computer desk, preferably between $100-200, but I'm not really sure where to look. I've browsed around Wayfair a lot, but have some worries about their quality. Any recommendations, or good experiences with Wayfair purchases? Hoping to keep the new desk alive...
That comes with the cost of getting an AM5 motherboard and DDR5 ram then. Throwing money like that for something like this doesn't really seem feasible either. I was considering a used optiplex or something like you mentioned, but found that a lot of the pricing for not-ancient models wasn't...
as in one of the newer Arc GPUs? That just doesnt sound worth the money at this price point. Even the a380 hovers around $200; I can get a secondhand rx 580 for less than half that. Plus, seeing as it's a machine for my not-tech-friendly parents and young sibling, any potential driver issues...
If any of you out there work with GIS software, I'd love to hear your thoughts on how much ram is appropriate for starters. I'm a student that will be using ArcPro. My current setup includes a Ryzen 5600 with 16 gigs of ram; I'm considering upgrading to 32gb, but only if it will give a...
Thanks for the response. In your opinion, what is the price difference cutoff to go for the 5600g over the i3+580? i.e. how much cheaper would the 5600g have to be than the alternative to make it a more attractive option, just in case I have trouble getting my hands on hardware
Maybe this is a silly question to ask, but I'm a noob so feel free to make fun of it if you want. Which is better for backing up all of one's data on a system - a system image or cloning the drive (I only use a single drive)? Both seem pretty straightforward; are there any pros/cons unique to...
Pretty much what everyone else here said. If your board supports 5000-series CPUs, those are a pretty big upgrade without having to spend much money. Even a $140 5600 non-x would be a big jump, but if you have the cash to spend on something higher up the catalogue, go for it
Hi all,
I'm planning on soon building a simple home desktop for my family. Its uses will include basic web browsing and document editing for the adults, to light gaming (minecraft, roblox, etc) for my little sister. The budget is tight, and I'm torn between getting a new Ryzen 5600g or a...
