I don't see the PSU on there two times? I saw that the case is OOS, but I was posting this mostly for a check of quality. I plan on buying this rig within the next couple weeks.
I may be able to overclock, but it will depend on how friendly the BIOS is...hah
All great suggestions! I may wait until the beginning of the new year to purchase, however, so I may bump this thread right around the time I'm ready to buy. But I may buy earlier!
As far as Windows 10 goes, I don't mind spending a little extra as long as it's a legit copy! I've had nightmares...
Thank you all for your feedback. That's really good to know!
Another question: I have Windows 7, 64 bit. Will I get optimal performance out of that OS or should I upgrade to Windows 10?
Wonderful, that's good to hear. And, what about perhaps upgrading the RAM speed a bit? I know my mobo supports DDR4-3466, but we have 3000 on there. Is it worth it to take a better RAM?
One thing I was thinking: I'd be willing to go down some memory on the SSD for a bit more RAM. Would that be a smart move? For example, cut the SSD to 500G and double RAM.
Thanks for the feedback on the PSU :) It's good to know!
Donald, thanks for all your hard work. I think it's starting to look really good so far. I'm going to take some time to review and I will be back!

That's the one I have. But, I'd be willing to upgrade! I'd just have to modify the rest of the components to stay around budget.
That's a great place to start. However, I do not need a few things generated on that list, so that money could be used for beefing up other things.
I do not need:
GPU
Cooler
PSU
Hey all,
I'm planning on build a new rig soon and I'd love to have some input. It's been nearly a decade since I've build a new, full rig! I'm trying to get keep under $1k for now.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming mostly (such as PoE...
I've never done this before and I'm a little hesitant but I'd be willing to try. Is there some sort of guide or youtube video you know of that can help me with this? Thanks for the suggestion!
Just got a Hyper Evo and overclocked to a stable 4.5Ghz. That seemed to help a bit! One thing I've noticed while playing PoE is that performance drops a lot over time as I'm playing, which may be a RAM issue since it's quite slow. But right now RAM is too expensive. Also, I get a lot of dropped...
Thanks all for your feedback. I'll keep all of that in mind. Right now I'm just debating whether or not I should just buy a new rig! I'm not even sure at this point that it would be worth doing just mid-tier upgrades at this point.
My thoughts right now (and this will change in the future when...
Does it matter if I don't have a paging file when my total memory load is below my 16 gigs? Usually something like PoE doesn't take more than 3k total working memory. I always usually have plenty of left over for that game.
No, nothing has changed since the Diag. I was under the impression that no page file was necessary if you had 16gig of RAM?
Btw... PoE doesn't really use too much RAM, it seems. I'm usually never more than at 70% usage.
It sounds like the most reasonable thing to do is just buy a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO and then overclock. Overclocking seems to be really easy with my BIOS, although I've never done it before.
Thanks to everyone for the help! :)
Thanks everyone for your reply. It seems like the bottleneck may be the CPU, which makes sense. It was a budget buy a couple years ago.
I'm not too familiar with overclocking, and I have stock cooling, but if someone can guide me to a good youtube video that may help with the overclocking. I...
I'm just getting back into gaming after a while and I noticed that I get less than stellar performance on some newer games like Path of Exile. I'm looking to fix the weak links before I have to consider buying a new PC.
What do you think would help the most?
So my old Rosewill adapter died today and now I'm looking for something just as good, if not better. I'd like to find something with good range (5hgz) because my hotspot is a bit far away from my desktop computer. USB is preferable, as well as something that will easily fit in a USB slot around...
Hi all, I'm trying to improve my overall performance in PoE without going crazy and buying $1k worth of hardware. I just got a new GFX card, and it's improved my performance at bit, but overall I'm still getting a lot of chop here and there. I thought I may be throttling some component, or...
Thanks for the reply!
I don't remember exactly what I was doing, honestly. But I'm pretty sure I wasn't updating the BIOS. After lots of breadbording and so forth I took an educated guess and decided it might be either my CPU or Motherboard (after I bought a new PSU, which I needed anyways...
Hardware of note:
MSI Z77A-G45 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 (4 years old, along with the CPU, RAM)
Here's the scoop: Bought a new hard drive for my rig, upgraded to Windows 7 on that HDD, started installing updates for my motherboard and my computer gave up. Now, when I turn on the power to the PC...
