Hi all,
I'm currently on an HP z420 workstation (Xeon E5-1620 with 32 GB ram) and thinking of building a new PC. Its for office work, some small graphics and video editing. What should I look for with CPU, motherboard, and ram?
I have a separate videocard (Nvidia GT1030) and PSU and case...
Thanks for the advice. I just want to clarify that I feel that consumer products are only what I need. I know enterprise/server hardware is more safe but I doubt its needed for my use. After all, these companies supply consumer-grade hardware that most people use without much complaint. Thanks...
Hi all,
I'm wondering if the prices have stabilized for video cards? It used to be very expensive last 2 years. I'm also on a budget, maximum I can go around $250 and the unit has to last minimum 5 years. I don't need big power. Don't really play latest gpu-intensive games. But I do want to use...
Hi all,
I have been away from computers for a while...youthful enthusiasm replaced by utilitarian "if-it-ain't-broke" mentality. Anyway, I am looking for a new HDD and as usual, the money issue comes up. What's the best bang for buck but also reliable? I am looking at two 4TB 5400RPM HDD...
Second question: My hdd has a recovery partition and I have recovery CDs. If I do a full wipe/overwrite using some other software, will my recovery CD restore the recovery partition on the HDD?
Hi,
I want to start over with my system. If I use my recovery disk to re-install my OS, will it overwrite all the past data on the HDD? Is it similar to the method called "shredding" or overwriting with "zeros"?
All my stuff is backed up.
Not really. The keyboard pins on the mobo are bent and its seems to turn itself on automatically from full shutdown. Not an issue with virus or something; maybe power driver or a short somewhere.
Hi all,
I need some help deciding and could use your help. First let me describe what I use my laptop for now. I need word processor (apart for MS office, I also run cygwin so I can use emacs), web surfing (mainly for research, news, etc., and very rarely youtube videos), and reading pdf...
I have an issue which maybe someone can help me with regarding my Lenovo Thinkpad T410. Pressing Right-Alt+Enter keys causes the laptop to go to sleep. These keys are linked with the setting for the power button (also set to go to sleep on press). When the power button is set to shut down the...
Hi all,
I don't know about wipe/reinstall but Windows was reinstalled using the Recovery partition. I did it again recently. I am going to say it is a hardware/driver problem, maybe the power manager software. It did happen recently but hasn't since. It's been staying off (while plugged in, but...
Hi all,
I hope this is the right sub forum. I have a ThinkPad t410 that I bought used. It's working fine, running Windows 7 Pro. One issue that it had its that it won't stay shut down. It turns itself back on. I turned out all the sleep timers, looked through the Scheduled tasks and disabled...
For me, it was either 640 or the 830. WP are pretty productive phones. The 640xl looks nice, though it does seem big. I think you got to hold one in person to figure out if it's too big for you.
The prices and specs are very good. It's a good deal. It's an underrated phone and OS. I think...
I was in the market for a new phone. I used the Lumia 521 (tmobile) for the psat 2 years. At that time, the 521 could be had around ~$100 and it was supported by Tmobile. I never had a smartphone before because they were so expensive (don't use tmobile contract plans). I bought for the family so...
The OPPO Find7 and 7a were on sale up to yesterday. Did you think about it? Basically, the Find7 is almost like the LG G3 with similar screen and RAM but only for $330. The Find7a is a budget version of the Find7, but the specs are still good (no qHD screen and 2gb RAM instead) and its got...
I have a lenovo t410-2522 with 4gb RAM. From the lenovo website, it says:
So what is my safest and best option for upgrading the RAM? After reading the recommendations, it looks like I need 2 sticks of 4gb 1066MHz 204-pin RAM. Does that sound right?
I've been searching for an answer to this and can't find a satisfactory answer. The OPPO Find 7 has 3gb and the Find 7a has 2gb. How much difference does that make?
I don't update to new phones often and I am coming from Windows Phone (Lumia 520 with 512gb RAM). I am currently a light user...
I'm still looking at new smartphones. Since I never cared for phones, there's a lot to learn and so many different opinions. I saw the Xiaomi Mi4 and am curious about it. Has anyone here used it in the USA? The reviews I seen seem good. Where would you buy it from? Any ideas on firmware updates...
Suppose I up the budget to $350, what can I get?
The more I look at the 1+1, I don't like. The specs are great but not so sure about quality, durability, longevity.
Another thing I would really like aside from good battery life is a stable OS. I know they're all Android with some changes but I would like the software to work well with the hardware. Why spend money on fancy hardware if the software and UI makes it hard to use?
So far, I have looked at...
Ok, that's a start. Thanks mi7chy. I was looking at the 1+1 and the Alcatel Idol 3. Any opinions on those?
Also, I know that I probably can't get a phone that will meet all my requirements so I'm ok with making some compromises.
Hi all,
I've been using a Nokia 521 for the past 2 years. I have it running WP8.1. I am pretty happy with it because my needs are very simple, at least for now. It seems the 521 is getting old with random reboots, crashing apps especially the browser and podcasts. I can put up with most issues...
So what's going on? I have my machines linked to the team [H]ard|OCP? It's got 15 members. Is there another one that is the real [H] team?
Edit: Sorry, I thought it was talking about Citizen Science Grid. My bad.
