DIY Home server room cooling, ideas/inputs

Not that worried about the humidity, the humidity i can control even an rainy day, just an matter of controlling what i put in the room and how much, i can do that with an micro controller and some logic, you actually want more then 30%RH humidity, and below 60%RH going below 30% would make the...

DIY Home server room cooling, ideas/inputs

Hi Spartacus09, As i live in Denmark, most of the year we have pretty low temperatures outside, both Apple and Google are building data centers here because of the possibility to use free cooling, besides that the power here is pretty expensive (50cent pr kWH) so using AC would just make the...

DIY Home server room cooling, ideas/inputs

Hi All, preface: I have all my server gear and network placed in my house in an around 1.8m2 (~20sqft) room, district heating enters the same room and therefor adds more heat in the winter time but more or less no heat in the summer as we dont have the heating turned on beside heating water...

Consolidating RPi's to one low power machine, but witch one?

Thanks, i have access to J5005 NUC systems and i even think that i can get hold of an J4105 based system to, my normal EXSI environment consist of 4 older DL380G6 and G7 systems, they do the job when i do testing, but the kWH prices in Denmark are around 33cent/kWH thus leaving them on is not an...

Consolidating RPi's to one low power machine, but witch one?

i think the HP Elitedesk 800 G2 mini would be over the normal power budget i would like to hit. I would really like to use more or less the same power as the RPi's (when the machine Idles) thus idle power should be around 5-6watts that would be around the same wattage as the, intel J5005 CPU.

Consolidating RPi's to one low power machine, but witch one?

Thanks for the input, as all machines will be running very light do you think it would be possible to use the intel NUC NUC7PJYH, it would really fit perfectly in with regards to the low power usage.

Consolidating RPi's to one low power machine, but witch one?

Hi All, As the years have past i been using RPi's for different small tasks, and they are doing great, but some applications like Unifi requires more and more ram and faster CPU's, therefor i was considering using an low power Intel NUC or Gigabyte Brix to consolidate all the RPi into...

Come to Denmark, the electric prices are round 0.32USD/kWH, most homes get heated by district heating, if this is not possible, you get an discount on the electric.

temporary network cable like a extension cord?

+1 for Vyedmic, the other solution is calling Huber & Suhner to get the milcat5 or 7 cables, these will do the job for sure. http://aerospacedefence.hubersuhner.com/en/Products/Wire-Cable-solutions/Databus-cables

    network tester

Best shielded CAT 6/CAT 7 cable? Need advice..

Thanks for the link, I been doing X band RF electronics for the last 14 years, when not dealing with this I normally design network installations, for primarily military C3 systems use. Normally we tie grounds at both ends, but we don't use normal grounds, we use data grounds, these will be...

Best shielded CAT 6/CAT 7 cable? Need advice..

Links are stable at 1Gbit and package drops are none on the switches (CISCO), so no problem, the reason for the CAT-4 is that the building is old, and haven't been renovated yet, whenever management gives the go it will be changed and old the tokenring cabling will be removed to :).

Best shielded CAT 6/CAT 7 cable? Need advice..

if you only connect the ground in one end, the shielding will act as an antenna, giving problems, you need to tie it at both ends., this is basic RF electronics. ground loops, is only an symptom of bad grounding or bad choice of solution. I had an problem with an cable 3 months ago where the...
