Don't know about the script extender. Haven't looked at the game for a few years now. Figure I would wait for the patch next week and then hope moders get stuff fixed if they need to. Then start making my list.

Since I use mods, I have FO4 set to only update if opened thru Steam. What did I find? It had the 14.1 gig update queued. I had to stop the download, it's sitting on "suspended" now, but still on the download page.

Benefit of the GoG version is you can download the installers for the old version just in case.

I've never really played FO4 much, so I started up a game on Steam. It will be interesting to see the differences now. I didn't bother with the HD textures, didin't seem worth 58GB install size plus the 30GB standard.

That makes me sad, i was looking forward to it.
we are talking about the old hd texture pack. this new update may be different, i have to wait on gog though...

They say it only matters @ 4K
running it at 4k/maxed settings. only place i really can tell a difference is at the first "load game" menu, the grass now looks like absolute pixelated garbage. in game, really hard to tell. could be what Arme said.

Yeah he's probably right. I remember when you got the GOTY edition from Steam, you had to go to the DLC page and install it manually cuz it didn't install with the rest.

I played Fallout 4 with the HD Texture Pack and can't say I noticed any visual upgrade...maybe side by side comparisons you can see something...I was hoping this new 'next-gen' update would be a bigger improvement but it doesnt sound like it...

Fallout 4's 'next gen' update is over 14 gigs, breaks modded saves, and doesn't seem to change much at all

Free "DLC" should show up in your DLC list on the game page in your library. You just need to check it off.

It's Bethesda, what else did you expect?

From the article:

The "Weapon Debris" graphics setting still causes the game to crash on RTX cards, an issue that has been present since RTX cards were introduced.
I thought this would finally solve that. When I upgraded from my 1060 to my 2060, the game would CTD instantly once you clicked play.

After a bunch of research, I realized it was my new card and the Steam version not playing nice, once it was disabled, it was smooth sailing.
I never had any issues with weapon debris on the GOG version.

I had to disable Weapon Debris setting or it would CTD eventually. :/ I never ended up playing through FO:NV cuz no matter what I did (even different PC builds) it would randomly CTD to the point it was unplayable. Good old Bethesda.

once, or continues to? with new patch?
I just wanted to mess around on an old save, so it was just once.
New game or old save?
Old save.

I did not know about this. That is probably why it crashed because I set the weapon debris to ultra. I'll have to disable it to see if it still crashes.

NV had the same bug as FO3 with multicore CPU's.

This works for both.

  • If you haven't done so already, run Fallout 3 at least once. Once you get to the title screen, exit the game.
  • Open your Documents folder (My Documents in Windows XP), and inside, look for a folder called My Games. Inside should be a folder called Fallout3. Open this.
  • In this folder, open the file FALLOUT.ini with Notepad. Make sure the file is not read-only.
  • In the configuration file, search for the header called [General]. It will be at the very top of the file.
  • Go to the bottom of the [General] section, just before the [Display] header. The last line of the section should be sLanguage=ENGLISH, or whatever your language is.
  • Below this line, copy and paste the following two lines:

    bUseThreadedAI=1
    iNumHWThreads=2

  • Save your changes.
Use this and save scum, it should get 80% of the crashing out of the way before resorting to mods.

If you don't mind some mods, these will help as well.

Actually I think that would be an Nvidia thing as well since it was an Nvidia feature for the game. I have never used it because it never worked right.

Turned off weapon debris and the game was smooth sailing. I don't know what they mean about "widescreen" support because the default hFOV is still narrow.

It worked beautifully on my Titan X when they first introduced it.

Yeah I think Brackle was right since I remember hearing that the Nvidia tech used some kind of physics that broke the drivers for the RTX cards and Bethesda said to go find your own workaround and pound sand as per usual.

It worked great on my 960 and 1060 as well.

It's still on sale for $10 on GOG until May 1 if anybody missed the Steam sale.

Also check your emails, I got a code from GOG the other day for another couple dollars off of that but it was one those that's only good for the account attached to the email address it was sent to.

At 8 bucks I decided to grab it for the dlc and being a drm free version with better control over which patch version I'm using.

Yup, did the same thing myself this morning before I left the house....

Started dling the offline installer files of the old .163 version before GoG updates, just in case.

- I still have my modded Skyrim set to do not update on Steam ever since right before the Anniversary Edition released. (It's ridic the amount of Steam games that won't let you roll-back via the Beta tab - I know Crusader Kings and Grim Dawn both offer "legacy" options, so why not Bethesda... Oh, that's right)

The weapon debris/RTX thing seems odd. I mean...that has to be a pretty big chunk of the population playing this game right now. You'd think that would be a priority with this update, but apparently not. If isn't fixable, maybe disable it automatically when it does the hardware detection thing?
