RGB 5050 LED Strips for lighting Home Theater speakers to look like AMC Prime.

Which system do you use?

I run hyperion with the wireless extension. Basically I have hyperion running on a raspberry pi zero W taking the signal from a HDMI splitter in my AV shelf and a ESP8266 board connected to the LEDs. I have some more work to do to get everything to look clean but its been a fun project. You should check out their website.

BTW,
I’m all done (with the minor exception of cutting a little bit more foam for the HVAC drop down to fill in the few missing pieces)

5% brightness on red only which is dark enough to use during movies with no negative impact to the image.

Rerolled equipment rack area (I still like the original look better here, but that's exactly where the left front wide speaker needed to go. I dropped the 27" monitor to a 22" monitor and pulled down the Mad Maxx Fury Road Sound Treatment. )

I like the effect and I'm happy with it. I'll be exploring some of the HDMI magic boxes that match the RGB color to the main themes on the projected image.

Looks amazing and I bet it sounds even better. Wish I had a setup like that.

I only have two subs and still need to turn the volume down pretty low. Your sub setup looks like it could be lethal :D

That end reult is looking great.

What processor are you using now as your AVS signature is listing a Denon x7200wa which doesn't do 9.1.4?

I was considering pulling cables for speaker LED's when I built my 9.1.6 setup, looking at this result I wish I had done it.

A Denon x7200wa with the 4 height channels paired as a single top middle Left and Right at four ohms using an external amp. I’ve tried in my room, true 9.x.2 and true 7.x.4 and this simulated 9.x.4 and my favorite has been 9.x.4. My seats back row (thus my head) is in the center of the four ceiling speakers so the effect is like phantom top middle that covers the whole area above my head with a larger ceiling area feel/sound. My friends have told me they like the speakers paired on the ceiling over discreet too as they’ve heard the several setups. So while I would like to have 4 discreet ceiling channels to “make it honest” —- paying $3k for a 13 channel x8500h to do it (when it’s arguably subjectively a worse experience) doesn’t appeal to me. I’d consider a 13 channel AVR with Dirac. The Monoprice 16 channel pre-pro is on my watchlist, (because Dirac is amazing, and 16 channels) but only if it releases with HDMI 2.1 and DTS-Pro for a bit more future proofing.

mashie, have you ever experienced this type of multi AVR setup? I wonder if there are problems with timing and delays - especially if not the same model AVR is used. Also how do you keep volumes synced and DSP modes synced?
Seems too complicated to be a reliable experience - even with just two.

I would still like a 13 chanel AVR, but I will probably hold out till HDMI 2.1 for VRR support. HDMI 2.1 seems like a long wait at this point for both projector and AVR/pre-pro implementation. I just heard Denon is releasing their first HDMI 2.1 line of receivers this year, but the highest they've announced so far is the 6700h and it is only 11 channels. Also I think this first gen of 2.1 AVRs is only a single 48GBPS source in port. The other source in ports are HDMI 2.0. So that's kind of lame too. Seeing as I'd want one for PC, one for console at minimum - probably 2 for console.

Hey, I dug this thread up for someone asking me how I installed the RGBs, and figured I might as well update it.

My home theater was featured on youtuber personality Youthman's channel, and he gave it a nice compliment saying it was the most immersive home theater he'd visited yet. That's a pretty nice thing to say, in the context of him having visited a bunch of professionally designed and calibrated HT rooms up to $800K, and my HT room by comparison is quite modest in cost. Youthman prefers the color blue on the speakers. :)

And link to my room thread which I keep updated on AVSForum
