Hey Everyone,

Figured it couldn't hurt to post up my recent (still ongoing) experience with a suddenly bad DIMM from my 2x8GB kit that's under 1 year old from Corsair. I've been running rock solid with the DIMMS in the title within my sig rig @ 3200MHz via the XMP profile on my mobo, and suddenly this Friday, no POST 1/10th of the time (sure made for some fun troubleshooting this weekend, RAM roulette sometimes posting was a joy to diagnose) and if I did post, I'd BSOD within 5-10 minutes under load.

Single DIMM is running like a champ, all OC's reapplied.

Anyway, ticket entered with Corsair support 10 minutes ago, lets see how my RMA experience goes.

Performance note: already seeing a large fluctuation in my minimum FPS, something something 16GB of RAM should be standard in a gaming PC, we all now this. Sea Of Thieves and Hellblade: Senuas Sacrifice (GREAT GAME) are seeing big drops in FPS in heavy/dark areas, while my older Source titles (NS2 and GO) could care less I'm at only 8GB's on single DIMM.

UPDATE:

Received a response from a support rep this morning (3/14/2019), approved of my troubleshooting and will be receiving a pair of new DIMMS. (Edit, I should add if my invoice/serial numbers check out on their end, I'm expecting them to...)

Pictures of the serial numbers and invoice for original order in May 2018 from Amazon attached and replied to my support ticket.

Nice and easy so far.

Watchin', I have the 2x16 platinum kit, interested to know how it goes if one of mine goes belly up.

Good luck with the life of yours :D, will keep ya updated!

Idk what the deal is, the last 2 components I've ordered now (EVGA case in my sig) and now my RAM (purchased a month after the mobo/cpu in my sig) have needed RMA'd or replacement parts ordered. Hitting an unlucky streak here :(

Thats is unlucky, I chose the parts I got around the warranty and quality pretty much.

MOBO - evga z390 ftw (extended 3y warranty to 10y)
CPU - 9900k std 3y but rarely is a problem
SSD - Samsung 970 evo plus 5y/600TBW
Ram - Corsair standard lifetime (but rarely has issues as well)
GPU - originally a evga GTX970 w/10y, I resold it and got a used 1070 from the forums here will likely pickup the next evga XX70 series and do the extended warranty.
PSU - Corsair AX760 - 7y
Monitor - Dell U3415w - 5y (though I only have 1 year left on this, so maybe a 144hz upgrade next :D)

So basically everything in my rig except gpu, CPU cooler, keyboard/mouse that can fail is pretty well covered
I love EVGA for that reason, my 8 year old P67 motherboard is still covered and for overclocking too :p.

Not going to lie, EVGA's warranty is what makes them my go-to recommendation and why my rig looks like that of a fan-boy :D lol.

Funny enough, I sold my EVGA 970 to a buddy with a failed Asus 970 after his failed 2-3 months after that 1 year warranty was up... luckily just scooped up my 1080 just prior 2nd month it was out, so good timing? Lucked out. 970 is still serving him well enough 2-3 years later. Wish EVGA would provide [H] with products to review, but I've read about why they do not any longer... tis a shame.

UPDATE: Here's a bit of a stickler. I have to RMA BOTH of my modules, and once received, they'll then send a replacement duo my way. So, lucky for me, I work IT and can borrow some stock speed DDR4 to tide me over, but if you're a regular Joe without DDR4 stock lying around, be prepared to go without while you have no RAM :( I get it for compatibility/liability reasons, but yeah, expect downtime....

Anyway, I have the pre-paid shipping label provided to me by Corsair, and my work can send things out on my behalf, so I'll be re-addressing this whole thing Monday during 7:30-4:30 working hours CST. Pulling my good DIMM on Sunday night and packaging both up and re-wrapping the OEM box in another full of bubble wrap, yada yada and sending out Monday before 3:30 CST.

Lets see how long it takes to get there, and fresh sticks to be sent my way.

Thats pretty standard practice since it comes as a kit.

It absolutely is, you're correct, I have to do the same thing at work with Crucial when a bad kit comes around. Figured it was worth mentioning for documentation purposes should someone stumble upon this thread later.

Hoping for some quick turn-around next week.

UPDATE: So it took Corsair from the 15th to the 19th to actually provide me with a printable shipping label, to attach ALONGSIDE my self paid shipping. I had a buddy at work take care of my FedEx Express shipping label, so yes, expect your RMA to come out of "your own" pocket .

My borrowed DIMMS are in place, writing this from my 3200-less machine, rocking 2x8GB 2400MHZ DIMMS atm.

Not quite as flattering in the looks department, but hey, they're getting the job done i suppose

RMA in progress, my DIMMs have left my possession as of yesterday ~3:00pm.

More to come...

So overall... this whole thread is about a typical RMA experience?

It shouldn't surprise anyone that it took them roughly 4 days to process your RMA info (15th to the 19th) since it involves the weekend. Weekends =/= business days.

On a side note, I like to buy my ram sticks as individual SKUs instead of kits. That way I only have to RMA one stick instead of both. There are times when the manufacturer has to replace the bad ram stick with a different model, however they usually will accept any other matching ram sticks and exchange them as well.

I'm not really sure what you're getting at here... I originally notified Corsair of the issue and provided all troubleshooting info on the 11th (after a fun weekend of RAM roulette), and here we are the 20th and my RAM kit as a whole has just left my employer's shipping dock... it took them almost 9 day to issue me a valid shipping label for my genuine product.

I'm still (now) waiting on my actual replacement parts, and I'm hoping they are fully functional once they arrive. This has yet to be seen.

Compare that against EVGA, who I've had previous dealings with. I had a new front panel in my possession for my DG-87 case within 3 days of my ticket submission date (the day it arrived at my house, ticket entered within a couple hours of me taking possession of it), and they covered shipping cost both ways.

That all being said, I don't think it hurts anyone to document my RMA experience with a major company, clearly the support level does vary, just giving my experience is all...

UPDATE: Corsair sent me communication on Friday asking if my RAM had shipped yet, when it had arrived Thursday AM... had me a bit worried... but Saturday AM I had a tacking number for the replacement RAM, scheduled for delivery sometime tomorrow (Tuesday).
