I hope to have time to learn more hands-on things at some point.
I'm only good with code. I'm reaally good with code. And almost nothing else.
I mean, I can reverse engineer machines pretty well, but never know the right thing to do, which so many others seem to just know.
Could you give an example of a device or circuit you'd have trouble figuring out silicon-wise?
I think you're expecting too much of yourself. You can't be a jet pilot and a submarine captain.

Oddly enough, Sean Bean would work fine instead of Samuel Jackson in 1408 precisely because his wooden face would add to the mystery, add ambiguity to the warnings he was communicating to Cusack's character.

And, to go back to WIll Smith for a second - the man is fake.

Personally, while I like Samuel Jackson, the choice to cast him there and place him in an antagonistic sort of position on the cover was confusing at best. You put Samuel Jackson in a role because the role calls for Samuel Jackson - this role did NOT call for that mofo :p

Someone who is better equipped to play low-mood characters would have pulled it off better and the tragic background might have not felt out of place.

That sort of fits, that's his guy. A slightly sleazy, hyper go-getter in some 3-letter org.

Like, High Fidelity was supposed to be a rather "serious" film, at least when it came down to John's arc of finding out how relationships work. But it just felt like a comedy.
1408, to me, backfired in light of how tragic his backstory was supposed to be.

So, in Sean and John's case I have the illusion that they're constantly playing the same guy.

Sean Bean just can't seem to be able to express emotions. John Cusack seems like a comedy actor to me, feels fake for some reason.
Will Smith - The guy maintains a facade of mr. friendly cool guy, but I don't think this is an organic part of him.
