Just installed my new p7p55d pro / i5 750 / g.skill 4gb 1600 combo and my 32-bit vista system info was showing "4.00 GB (1.99 GB usable)" - then did a fresh install of windows 7 x64 thinking that the new os would solve the problem. With windows 7 x64 installed I've still got exactly the same 4GB/2GB problem so I did some more testing.

Both the bios & Memtest 86 are detecting both dimms that are installed. What I don't understand is that even though they both seem to be 'seeing' all 4GB (2x2GB) they both list my total system memory as being only 2GB and say that I'm running in single channel mode.

CPU-Z is detecting both dimms and is listing my memory size as 4096, but it's also telling me that I'm running single channel memory.

Any idea what my problem is?

Ok, I posted this reply to your other thread, but perhaps you missed it. I had the exact same problem with my X58/i7 920 system except that my 6 GB was being recognized as 6 GB (3.99 GB usable) and being reported as running in dual channel mode. What fixed it for me was to increase CPU VTT voltage by about 100mV. Though that isn't always the cause. Here is my response from your last thread about this issue:

First, and most obvious, make sure both DIMM's are fully seated in their respective slots. Second, make sure your RAM voltage and timings are set to manufacturer's specs. Try raising CPU VTT voltage a bit as well if manually setting voltage and timings doesn't help. Last, make sure your CPU is seated correctly and there are no bent pins in the socket. The i7/i5 CPU's have and their memory controller integrated into the CPU and if the wrong pins are bent or not making proper contact with the CPU you can experience this type of problem. Another potential cause is a heatsink that is tightened down too tightly causing the traces between the socket and DIMM slots to not connect.

I've done everything except reinstalling the cpu / heatsink to no effect. I've reseated the RAM, used the RAM's exact XMP profile, etc..

Anyone have any more suggestions before I reinstall the processor?

I don't see an option for cpu vtt voltage. Anyone know where this is on the p7p55d's?

The computer itself is taking a while to post every time it boots up if that's helpful - both at stock and when overclocked.

Check your BIOS for a memory remapping option, and if there is one, toggle it.

Problem fixed. After seating / reseating my ram at least a dozen more times it's finally working. The new style of dimm clips on the asus p55 boards are useless...

I agree the new design that Asus came up with is crazy. I see no reason why you would need to re-invent the clips for DIMM's; to "make them easier to install"? If someone is having difficulty getting some RAM in their computer, then perhaps they should stay away form building one.

What I have learned is, if you seat them in the "non" clip side first then secure them down on the other side they will seat much better.

I for one applaud the new clip design. I haven't had a problem detecting the 3 sets of 12 gigs of RAM I've installed in either of the two RIIG rigs I've built. It's really...........really............really nice to not have to remove your video card or hire a porn/wrestling/and/or reality-show midget to come over and remove/install your memory.

I make love to my RIIG motherboard every night ;)
