Basically everything I was expecting it to be. A very interesting monitor and an excellent alternative to IPS, only if it wasn't for the terrible backlight bleeding. What a shame, the monitor looks very well built otherwise. Thanks for posting the review.
Both FIFA and PES are like the laziest console ports you'll see. And still, it's possible to configure the camera by yourself so it doesn't make any difference in the end. It's actually a good example why an as wide as possible FOV at the cost of detail isn't always desirable.
You're not...
The stock brightness setting is too high and that's what's causing the heat issue. I use mine at 0 brightness personally and still wish it could go lower when I'm using it in a dark room.
Are you sure it's all backlight bleed and not just PLS glow? Try taking a picture from straight on and from some distance too. A 16:9 27" monitor is very wide, it is always going to have some glow in the corners from closer distance.
Plasma STILL has those issues though and is still a tech that is unsuitable for computer monitors. That's why I believe there is a real possibility the same will be true for OLED. Although they will get better, burn in will likely always remain a problem. Just look at the AMOLED screens used in...
Yeah, some pictures and more info would be useful as well. What's wrong with the whites? Isn't the max brightness supposed to be very high on this monitor?
I believe compensation technology only works for colors, ie it will make whites more uniform but won't fix backlight bleeding. As for why it's not used by all manufacturers, it actually does sound like something that would drive the price up considerably.
What I don't get is how come none of...
Nah, I was referring to the very first photo in this thread. All TN panels have a gradient in image from top to bottom with top being darker and bottom washed out. I do own a TN monitor as well, unfortunetaly :D In order to see same colors on different parts of the screen you have to keep moving...
Doesn't the typical top vs. bottom uneveness of colors of TN panels affect your work? I can't even browse the web on a TN monitor without being annoyed by it, can't imagine what doing a color critical work would be like...
Edge lit can still give you good uniformity if done right. That doesn't seem to be the case with this monitor unfortunately. Perhaps the 24" will be better but I'm not holding my breath.
What you're saying basically is that PLS is a different tech because it uses a different anti glare coating. That doesn't make much sense. My guess is that it will be like PVA vs MVA, not identical but extremely similar in characteristics. There really is nothing wrong with PLS being an IPS clone.
It does, it's just that it's marketed in a way that your average person would believe it improves "contrast", "clarity" and whatnot. In reality you can't improve contrast by using a different backlight unless you resort to tricks like local dimming which doesn't work on computer monitors. LED...
Even Samsung claimed the same contrast as IPS from the beggining. Don't see why are people disappointed it looks "just like IPS". It was never going to be a revolutionary panel tech. It's only AG sensitive people that made it seem like that.
This is a new low, Oled, even for you...
On topic, hopefully these are better than LG's own LED backlit 23" IPS models. Otherwise there won't be much, or any at all improvement over the previous model.
The Samsung is only 1920x1080 though, isn't it? I believe it's the resolution/aspect ratio that is one of the main selling points of the U2412 for most people.
Considering those are hardware recommendations for tablets/slates, I would say it will have zero effect on sales of desktop displays.
The goal should be an OS that is as resolution/aspect ratio independent as possible anyway. Designing a GUI that only works good with one aspect ratio would...
Why would an OS have a "recommended" aspect ratio? Please stop spreading this BS and derailing the thread.
I'm with you on that one. I have a 1000:1 PVA next to my ZR24w and I can barely tell any difference in black depth in a normally lit room. I believe the higher the contrast, the more...
Fair points. I would guess most people interested in such monitor won't find it an issue though.
e-IPS and 6bit does not = low quality. Taking 10e's measurements into account, even with the fairly normal panel varience, contrast is still better than the U2410 and possibly the HP ZR24w. Also...
If only it was 1920x1080, eh? ;)
Don't see what's mediocre about it. Not the best looking monitor for sure, at least going by pictures, but 800:1 contrast is still good, it's 1920x1200 and it's IPS so you don't have to deal with uneven colors and poor viewing angles of TN panels. For the...
Nice. So contrast is fine, responsiveness is good and so is panel uniformity? There is no real visible color deviation across the screen? I was hoping for a 1920x1200 version of the U2311H and so far it sounds like the U2412M is even better than that.
It is, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing. If it turns out to be a 1920x1200 version of the U2311H, it's going to be a winner. Hopefully they don't screw up the panel uniformity.
Is it the only IPS monitor to use that panel though? I know not all LG panels have the same coating so it could possibly be different compared to the U2311H but I was more getting at how it is "the only recomendable 23" IPS". Similar how the PA246Q is often said to have the least harsh AG...
Is there any proof whatsoever that the Asus has lighter coating? I see this mentioned so often but it seems strange to me that Asus IPS monitors would have different coating than everyone else. I believe it is LG who apply the actual coating at the factory rather than Asus, Dell or whoever...
No, that's not what I'm saying at all. What I mean is that very few people are actually bothered by the more aggressive AG. I have a HP ZR24w, a Samsung PVA panel and a glossy TN of my laptop all next to each other. I can see the differences in AG but from a normal working distance, it doesn't...
I agree. People who are really sensitive to a more aggressive AG coating are in a minority, albeit a very vocal one. If you liked the Dell, I'd say go for it. Those upcoming PLS monitors will not be in the same price range and there are no guarantees they will be actually better.
Hehe, you know, looking at those pics I thought the exact same thing at first. But then I remembered how my ZR24w looks very tall in portrait, as if it were a wider aspect ratio than it really is. It's an optical illusion, drawing a rectangle around the screen confirms it is a 16:10 monitor in...
