There's rumors about a new iMac that will have a 5120x2880 display. At 14.7 megapixels this would dwarf everything else, including some medical imaging monitors that start at 10-15 grand. As much as I would LOVE this rumor to be true, I have a somewhat hard time believing that these panels...
This is a video from my Canon camera. It's encoded a 24Mbps, so maybe the bit rate is too high? The CPU is running fine (well, after I fixed it from underclocking itself because the thermal paste had melted), and with CoreAVC both cores reach about 90% decoding the video. However, even though...
Okay, so I have a bit of a weird situation. I have a Latitude D630 I got in 2007, and it came with an integrated Nvidia Quadro NVS 135m, which unless I am not utilizing it properly, is very crappy at simply playing back 1080p HD. The only way that I have been able to play 1080p smoothly so far...
I have a 2209WA. Black levels looking straight on are pretty good, however, as soon as you view the monitor at an angle, the black turns to a gray/white color. So, meh.. Unless you order one of the few monitors with a polarizer, I don't think you can really avoid this (unless you go PVA)
Hmm.. I've had my monitor a few months now.. and it works great.. on DVI. On a whim, I hooked it up through the analog connection and for some reason everything that's gray is tinted (rather noticeably) pink. Is this just a matter of adjusting the RGB settings in the monitor or is it something...
So I'm a college student with a D630 laptop, and do a lot of video editing. Unfortunately, my laptop's 160GB ran out pretty quickly. So I'm looking for an upgrade, and with video editing, I would like the fastest possible hard drive I can get to work with this thing (that has a decent amount...
Pixel doubling will make it look good, with no quality loss; however to really utilize those extra pixels, Lanczos resampling would produce the best looking image. Imagine if you had a square display with four giant pixels. There will obviously be huge aliasing. Now say you want to show the...
What I like to do is use Media Player Classic - Home Cinema, and set it to touching window from outside. This fills up your whole screen (you only lose a very small amount of footage on the left and right) and the resampling algorithm is superb. I think this beats black bars on the top and...
While we're on a roll... virtual reality > oled > crt > lcd
I think CRTs are pretty good, but sort of large. I wish they would have kept working toward those thin CRTs. Whatever happened to them?
Hey all, I just got the 2209wa, and I have a couple questions. I set it to 75hz as recommended for optimum smoothness, however, I edit a lot of video, so I am wondering how this works. Digital video runs at exactly 30*1000/1001 frames per second (~29.97), which when interlaced displays each...
To add to the long list of "just got mine todays", I just got mine today. Very nice! Definitely an upgrade from my laptop screen lol.. My only minor gripes are that I thought the screen had something on it and tried to wipe it off, but it turned out to be the anti-glare coating, and I have...
This was about two weeks ago.. it actually spiked to 15% at one point but now it's down to 8%. (Search GPS on bing.com, there should be an 8% link at the top). It only works on "Buy It Now" items I think...
There is currently a 20% Dell Coupon (?D1GJGKRQK0NFP exp. Sep 13). If you want a good deal, do what I did. I ordered a $200 Dell gift card from eBay (I think the seller was Colganbears) for $160. With 10% bing cashback, that put it at $144. Then, with the 20% coupon, that put my total at...
Hey, so I finally ordered one, but I'm a little concerned about the uniformity issues I've been hearing about. Do you all think this screen going to be better than my laptop's (TN) uniformity? 'Cause I don't notice anything on my laptop screen, but then again I could be missing something major...
What do you all say when you call in? I've been saying that this monitor was $208 two weeks ago and asking if I could get it at that price, but it never works.. (I hate to be annoying like that, but I'm just a dang college kid so $80 is a lot.)
Blurry DVI? What are you talking about Sathsayin? Unless there's some hardware screwing something up, each pixel is going to be what is digitally sent to it plus or minus a kazillionth of what your eye can see..
Samsung's and Dell's seem to be some of the better TNs, but then again, all TNs are about the same. In fact, I had really wanted a 1920x1080 screen since I edit video, but I am in fact going to get the Dell 2209WA because of how amazing it is. :p
Also, 2 ms is the panel response, so be sure...
Whoa.. why would one need to change sharpness? If the monitor is connected with DVI, then you would want each pixel to be exactly what is sent from the graphics card, and wouldn't altering sharpness (even by 1) change that?
Hmm.. that gave me an idea. They should make some controls in the monitor that adjust the CCFL tubes individually, that way with a calibration system you could tweak those to a good uniformity (not great of course; they are tubes, but better)
Shizdan, I'm feeling like you. I've been waiting forever for a monitor, and while I would like a 1920x1080 e-ips, I feel like even if Dell came out with one, how do we know it would automatically be as high quality as the 2209WA? So I'm thinking I'll just go for it and order today.
So now they're back in regular stock (non-refurb) for $289.00. I've been waiting a long time to see if Dell would come out with a 1920 x whatever e-IPS screen, but since these models are back in stock as opposed to some new model it makes me wonder whether it would be a long wait from here...
