Have you guys seen the Peerless Assassin Mini? They make a black and a white version: https://www.thermalright.com/product/peerless-assassin-120-mini-black/
Not super cheap at $35 but it's dual tower and compact. Heatsink is 135mm tall. Fan may add a few mm just from the pictures but I may...
Not an expert, but I am an engineer and have been trying to follow CAD benchmarks for a long time so this topic is kind of up my alley.
I'll try to post some things and examples I have come across.
I'm not sure why, but Intel is faster at some modeling, SolidWorks for example. A long time...

I was an idiot and got one of each price mystery box. Here is what I got. Spoiler...a bunch of junk. Not sure which item goes with which price box.

Gamers Nexus did a video about transient power spikes on gpus, and specifically the RTX 3080 and 3090. The video was over a year ago and those were the highest power draw cards at the time. Anyway, they pulled almost double the average power draw for very short spikes.
Some power supplies...
I might be missing something, or maybe it's not even the same exact issue, but former Microsoft guy has a video showing how to turn off ad tracking:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5Z6HNLuYk8
Microcenter incomplete could mean that some accessories are missing. I have seen motherboards in antistatic bags, all you get is the motherboard, or sometimes maybe just wifi antennas are missing. Other times it might be that m.2 screws are missing or the backplate is missing. Just check the...
Wow, time flies. I remember going to a local Best Buy at lunch to pick up a 4850. Best Buy was clearing out old gen cards and had I think it was a $50 coupon floating around. Then they screwed up and put out the 4850 cards a few days early, so I used the coupon for the new 4850. Others did...
Benchmarks from different sites are very different, it's really confusing. Something seems really wrong or off somehow.
This guy...can't understand the language...has some cpu benchmarks that show AMD really sucking hard.
He has an update in the comments where the 7700X has some very low 1%...
I got my $50 and $20 orders yesterday. I got 3 items and they were all packed in one box:
128GB m.2 SSD
data vault
docking port
disappointing, but not completely unexpected
The page is gone now so I guess those bundle deals are over. Prices on lots of things seems to have changed. Some Intel cpus are higher priced than before like the 12600k. It was 249 but is 299 now.
The AMD 7900X dropped a lot and is down to 439.98.
I normally am not much of a gambler, but I'm in for a $50 and a $20 this year.
Last year I think I got a strange looking 3850 video card and 16GB of some DDR4 RAM.
Never used any of it. I guess I'm a sucker for random computer parts. Another word for this may be hoarder.
This is a great deal, and you might be able to make it even better.
Over at the SD hot deals forums, someone noticed that you can add another 16GB stick to your cart after you add the bundle and this new stick comes up at $0.01. Now you have the cpu and two 16GB sticks of RAM for the $249 +...
I do not like the naming. It seems like these should have been the 7900XT and 7800XT. Why not follow the historical patterns we all know and understand. It's almost like they want to confuse buyers.
First the dumb naming virus got to Nvidia and now it has infected AMD.
The main page has a new bundle ad. If you click it there are some other pretty good bundle deals too:
https://www.microcenter.com/site/content/bundle-and-save.aspx
I agree, the cpu is the most important thing to do with Solidworks performance. Of course performance does depend a bit on how people view parts or assemblies. Viewing in shaded only is the fastest. Shaded with edges may slow down gaming cards a lot. Hardware accelerated lines is only...
The Intel cards seem pretty bad at Solidworks. Most gaming cards are at least decent in this one.
https://techgage.com/article/intel-arc-a750-a770-workstation-review/2/
For those who don't like to click, the A770 gets 41.2 fps in solidworks and a RTX 3060 gets 195.9. A 6600 XT gets 192.3...

Well, I was wrong. The deal is still good. I was just at the Chicago Central store today after work to pick up an open box AM5 board. I asked for a 7600X and RAM since I thought that was the cheapest option. The guy helping me said, "How about the 7700X and free RAM?" I couldn't believe it...
Techgage has some V-Ray benchmarks and others as well. https://techgage.com/article/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4090-the-new-rendering-champion/
The 4090 seems like a monster for that type of work. It cuts rendering times basically in half compared to a 3090 for the V-Ray tests.
Techgage: https://techgage.com/article/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4090-the-new-rendering-champion/
He found something interesting: The 4090 has ECC which can be enabled in the drivers. He checked with Nvidia and they said the 3090 TI also had it.
I don't remember anyone else talking about this...
The 28S had one big weakness which was the battery door area and battery door itself. The pressure the batteries put on the door would make the door itself break sometimes, or if one was really unlucky the housing area could crack or break. If you ever look to get one on ebay look at the...
I liked the 28 and 48 series calculators too. They had a lot of nice features. I might know of the one guy you mention who used to fix the calculators. Maybe 10 years ago or so I found a 32SII at a thrift store that sort of worked but had display issues. I sent it to a guy who was able to...
You younguns and your TI calculators....
I may have had a basic calculator in high school and I took pre-calc which was the hardest I could take at my high school.
Later in college....mechanical engineering classes...our professor said to get an HP calculator since their better scientific...
Some Asrock boards may have issues with stickers on the RAM slots. Too much adhesive and the stickers are not coming off cleanly:

These board prices are insane. I was just thinking of things a bit and came up with what I think is a decent comparison.
Anyone remember the Gigabyte X399 Aorus Xtreme? Second gen X399 motherboard for the 250W 2990WX cpu.
Huge E-ATX board, huge LGA socket, decently powerful VRM, quad channel...
Mirocenter has everything on the site now. I'm disappointed in the prices for this generation. Microcenter has 9 boards only right now. There are no boards between $300 and $500. The MSI $300 board does not have pci-e 5.0. There are sub $300 boards, but they are all Asrock. If you splurge...
Me either. I just found an extended warranty page for 5 or 7 years. It seems these 5 and 7 are total years, not additional. The 5 year says it adds 2 years to the 3 year warranty. The 7 year says it adds 4 years to the 3 year.

Paypal can suck.
I was just recently watching Steve from Gamers Nexus going through the collapse of Artesian Builds. The CEO for some reason was paying people via Paypal. Then near the end he claimed some of those payments were fraud to get the money back. Paypal went along with that and...
I just noticed something new on the Microcenter website. They have 2 SKUs now: https://www.microcenter.com/search/search_results.aspx?Ntt=evolve&searchButton=search&storeid=029
Not sure what the differences are, if any, but the new SKU does not mention LTE.
This could be a typo, or maybe they...
