Yeah, the install was a bit of a pain - probably the longest i've ever spent on a cpu heatsink. I have the revB version of the big shuriken, and when I was building my first GD05 it was the only decent option I could find. Very happy with the cooling performance, all in all - the 2500k with a...
Considering getting another - great case for the price! Have a 2500k in mine and they're my go-to for HTPCs. Aftermarket CPU HSF height is the only limiting factor.
I didn't see much in the way of reviews for the new Big Shuriken 2 online, but needed something shortish for my Silverstone GD04 HTPC so I decided to pick one up and see how it compared. It appears that it came out sometime in October? I had been running stock cooling on the 2500k, but as I've...
What about a Silverstone GD04 or GD05? It's somewhat close in appearance, has blue LEDs and can fit an 11" card. I have a GTX 460 & 2500K in mine in an a/v cabinet (though with an open front & back). Only issue with this case is limited aftermarket heatsink options due to the placement of the...
Yeah, it was definitely a poorly conceived plan :). I don't believe the side fan location is workable because of the height of the radiator and the amount of room there - height of the case and proximity to the motherboard. But I'll find out once the H60 gets here.
More likely scenario is I...
I have a H60 coming to me to go into one of my systems and I'm wondering if I can cram it in the GD04. The radiator dimensions are 120mm x 152mm x 27mm, and a typical DVD drive is 148.2 × 184 x 42, so I'm thinking I can get it in the optical drive cage and just use an external drive? My two...
I wouldn't bail on the case just because you've had heatsink problems. I have an LC17 and use a Noctua NH-U9B. Very happy with the cooling and fit. Just one option to consider, there are a lot of coolers that will fit in there - it's a pretty big HTPC case.
Based on height, you should be fine with that cooler. With the optical drive in place, I think you're limited to 70mm max height. That one appears to be 36mm (HS) + 15mm (fan).
As for the ATX psu, I have an Antec Basiq 550 PSU in mine. It's 86mm x 150mm x 155mm. The max you can do is...
I've got a GD04, which has the same layout as the GD05. You'll be fine with most GPU sizes - I have a MSI 460 Cyclone in there now which sits pretty tall and it fits (though the heatpipe makes contact with the top surface of the case, it still closes fine). This is the card...
Just grabbed one of these today from Fry's to put in my Z68 board. Been kicking myself ever since I missed their $250 2600k deal weeks ago and this was a consolation prize. Looking good so far... :)
