    Fallout 4

When I played this back in 2017-ish (not sure when I just know I had waited a year before I played it) I apparently didn't have most of the DLC. I don't remember Vault 88, Nuka-world at all. I had started a new playthru also, after installing an Nvidia sponsored mod- Vault 1080, which I think...

Old UPS batteries (APC SUA 1500)... where do you source them?

I've replaced the batteries several times in the older UPS's that I had. Took the old ones to Batteries+ to recycle. But there was also a company that did a UPS tweak and battery replace. Something about tweaking the UPS's settings, voltages, etc. to match the new batteries. That was kind of...

    Cyberpunk 2077

I've said it before, I think this is the best game I have ever played. New endings and neat stuff in Phantom Liberty. I think I've hit 800 hours now, hit 700 after the DLC came out, and I hadn't played it since mid 2021 (got past 650) after doing all of the original endings. First playthru I...

Old UPS batteries (APC SUA 1500)... where do you source them?

You have a Generac? Or maybe a gas powered Generator? Yeah if I was in that situation I would want 15 minutes runtime. My pc pulls probably 200W idle at least (pc + 34" lcd), and I do only get maybe 15 minutes from this $900 UPS. The one on the internet router+hub keeps that up over 5 hours...

Old UPS batteries (APC SUA 1500)... where do you source them?

Dual conversion isolates the output side from the input side. All incoming power is converted down to the battery voltage. All output power is generated within the unit from the battery voltage. There is no switchover time, because you run on UPS generated power 100% of the time. Complete...

MSI ends AMD GPU partnership due to poor sales

Companies go where the money is, it's as simple as that. If the cards are not selling well, it doesn't make any sense to invest r&d, engineering, and support costs if the end result is small potatoes. So they invest those r&d and engineering dollars in products they believe will generate more...

    What is wrong with steam?

Some do, some don't. Depends on the model. I inquired with Sabrent whether or not my 8Tb Rocket supported over provisioning, the reply was I have to do that myself with the partition sizing: "My name is Kevin, Thank you for contacting Sabrent Technical Support. I am happy to assist you, Let...

    What is wrong with steam?

If you are overall happy with the E: drive's performance, aside from it capping out your download speed for game patches, just accept it. As others have mentioned, a very high temp also throttles them. What sucks is heatsink space on NVMe's is usually limited. Better airflow would be the route...

Good customer service? Accepting returns also allows them to analyze the damaged chips. But yeah, they should claw back those losses from the guilty Mobo vendors. 4096A? Seriously?

Remembering the Nvidia GeForce 256 – the first PC gaming GPU

The Term GPU as we know it today, Nvidia was the first to create the chip, and as far as I know, that is the only claim regarding 'GPU' that's been made, is that Nvidia was the first to create one. The term for Graphics Processing Unit had been used prior but those performed a limited portion...

Ya but Nvidia SLI was still very exciting and reminded us of 3dfx SLI. 2 cards, same as 3dfx, but also the option for 3 or 4! 4 way SLI like the voodoo5 6000 :) In spirit it was the same. Still a fun time in pc graphics and new cool stuff was around every corner. I'm not sure if I ever owned...

    RTX 5xxx / RX 8xxx speculation

I figured it was cherry picked in some way, all presentations and PR material you gotta expect that. 77% is much more believable. Still an amazing uplift as well. Sounds like it could match the 9xx to 10xx generational performance increases.

Gamers report memory RGB lights are damaging GPU backplates

They do make blacklight LED's, because I have a blacklight flashlight and it's just LED's. UV light can make some colors pop and appear to glow... I wouldn't be surprised if some RGB setups do include some UV lights. No idea if any were in the DRAM that bleached those cards, but it's possible.

    RTX 5xxx / RX 8xxx speculation

From the GTC 2024 keynote (at ~57 minutes), he shows the Inference performance increase of Blackwell over Hooper/Ada, it's 30x faster: I believe the Blackwell is the 2 GPU's combined into 1 unit. Plus he attributes a portion of this increase due to the crazy fast interconnectivity. So if we...

All tests were 2560x1440, without DLSS, RT, or frame gen. Looks like 780Ti to 980Ti was 29% 980Ti to 10080Ti was 43% 1080Ti to 2080Ti was 29% 2080Ti to 3090Ti was 36% ? I could swear that one was higher. Maybe it was the DLSS improvements. 3090 to 4090 was 26% 3090Ti to 4090 was 21% I believe...

A look back at the 3dfx Voodoo 2 – the last dedicated 3D graphics card

I never had the original voodoo's couldn't afford it back then. But now I got this... Notice the chip part# -320 the 355-0026-320 is the 200Mhz VSA100 chip, vs the -220 166Mhz version widely used on the voodoo 4's and 5's. Those pictures taken by the builder before being shipped to me...

Remembering the Nvidia GeForce 256 – the first PC gaming GPU

The first computer "graphics" were on a CPU. So the term GPU is moving that work that the CPU did to the GPU. I would say the voodoo chips were accelerators, but didn't move the whole workload. The CPU-GPU boundary in 1999: In 1997, 3Dlabs developed its Glint Gamma processor, the first...

    RTX 5xxx / RX 8xxx speculation

I'll grant you Luke said 2080>1080ti.. probably misremembering. The graph shows 27% difference for 1080->2080 and 29% difference for 2080->2080ti. For a few generations I think this was all we got, about 30% uplift. Since Blackwell is still on the (as far as we know) same TSMC 4N node as 4xxx...

Can you post a screensnip of the latencymon? In the interrupt list, find the PCI's with positive numbers in the parenthesis, and screensnip those too, and paste here. I believe the items that use the old line based interrupts could be whats hogging system resources just enough to cause you...

The RAM probably runs decently hot too. Ultimately as long as it's a uniform pattern, it probably isn't going to look all that bad anyway. Who is staring at the bottom of the gpu backplate all the time. "...burned..." Umm, that's not burning, it's bleaching. There is a difference.

    $2,500 RTX-5090 ( 60% faster than 4090 )

I think the 5090 FE will land at $1599. The performance increase over previous gen is generally expected. They've built LHR cards, so if the consumer GPU's can be kept out of the AI boom in the same way, demand will not be insane and prices should be normal. Keep in mind, Nvidia wants to...

U.S. issues warning to NVIDIA, urging to stop redesigning chips for China

I can understand them not wanting China to build AI's out of Nvidia's most powerful chips. Ultimately, the genie is out of the bottle. The attempts to control it are going to fail, or to keep it from China. But it's bullshit to make a specific regulation to block a chip, and then to turn...
