If every business experienced that kind of cost, no business would ever run with Windows. Your company very well may have those extra costs but I guarantee you that if our company saw those cost differentials, we'd all be running Macs and we're not. We're very cost-conscious so TCO is a pretty...
I think most people around here know I am an Apple fanboy. But I think what you state is, to put it bluntly, bullshit.
We're a Microsoft/Adobe workflow shop. We all use Office 365 and the Macs are protected by Microsoft Defender. IT has the Macs managed rather well despite the Windows focus of...
Apple doesn’t design their hardware with business management in mind whereas Microsoft is all about business management. As someone who uses a Mac for work, I think the TCO savings are overrated. With that being said, I’d prefer to continue to work on a Mac than Windows. My job is one of the...
They finally fixed the missing temple bug without having to start NG+ or reverting to a previous save. That, to me, makes this a very worthwhile patch.
I’ve been lucky to never have a problem with an ASUS product that required RMA. I know it’s just a matter of time, as their RMA reputation has been horrible for as long as I’ve been buying their products.
My understanding is the SYS is pretty transparent though there will be a slight degradation in the sound quality—there always is when you’re manipulating sound in the analog world. But it’s not bad for a 50 USD device (from forum reviews, not from personal experience). You could spend a lot more...
While it’s true that you could place stands under the ‘center’ speaker, that would depend on how high the 55” monitor stands above the desk. There could be just enough clearance for the monitor over the reclined speaker but not enough clearance if placed on top of sound absorbent material.
I do...
For best results, all three speakers should be identical and at the same level. Most home theater setups aren’t conducive to this arrangement but it’s the ideal.
I have three toons holding names in Classic but I played Vanilla so thoroughly when it was considered current content and I really don’t want to go back to it.
Elon is bitter because he was only going to donate more to OpenAI if they gave him leadership... While OpenAI's mission creep seems to be a bit of a mess, Elon is in full sour grapes mode. IMHO.
EDIT: I should have read to the end of the thread before posting this, as you've basically just...
I used to really like Gnome and despised KDE way back when but when Gnome 3 came out I became a huge XFCE fan. My current desktop is KDE but XFCE has just enough graphical goodies to not suck and not be bloated at the same time.
As far as market share is concerned, I'm glad it's getting more...
I’m very partial to the 805s and 704s as I’ve heard hours of them. Without knowing which pair of B&Ws you have it’s really hard to recommend an upgrade. If you’re only considering an upgrade because of other people’s opinions, then you’re doing it wrong.
I’ve tried many of the distros and keep going back to Debian proper. If I ever activate my main desktop again I’ll probably try out Manjaro as it seems like an interesting foray into the Arch world.
I haven’t tried this but here is something from StackExchange:
ffmpeg -i audio.m4a -c:a flac audio.flac
This is simply a container copy from ALAC to FLAC without translating to a lossless -> lossy -> lossless conversion. M4A is Apple’s default media container. The M4A could also contain DRM...
My understanding is the DT-770 was designed around 250 Ohms and it’s why it’s more linear. I don’t know that is really the case as my wife has the 80 Ohm version that I’m currently trying to break in which sound really good to my ears, though the bass seems to be more extended than my Sennheiser...
If there’s any gravity they should fall over, eventually! I’ve sometimes had to cast Sense Star Stuff just to ensure that the enemy standing up over there is really dead instead of someone I missed coming into an area.
One thing I’m glad they haven’t touched: If you ‘accidentally’ hit their...
If you're in the middle of a bugged quest, the patch won't fix it. You'll either need to start a new character or go to NG+ and hope it's resolved there. So, it's looking like I'll finally be moving through the portal soon...
I do a lot of manual saves and also quicksaves. There’s a setting that also quicksaves for you upon certain conditions—I have mine on default still. However, sometimes you don’t find bugs until you’re pretty far into a sequence, like my discovery of the payloads trait bug, you may have to go...
I’m waiting for the patch to migrate to live before trying it. I hope it fixes the most egregious of the bugs I’ve encountered, though I’ll hazard a guess that it hasn’t changed how the Payloads trait ‘works’.
Companies are going to the rental/subscription model to get around the first sale doctrine (in the US). It’s a pretty shitty maneuver and we shouldn’t reward the companies exhibiting this behavior.
Apple power brick only (USB-C to MagSafe ending). I'm pretty old-school in that I have no other USB devices attached. HDMI to (usually) my wife's 49" TV is the only other connection.
My work MacBook Pro is now showing 77% charge but this is after a few weeks of not rebooting the machine. The battery life is at 88%. This is after about a year and a half of service, mostly plugged in with the occasional off power brick computing.
I have a mid-2010 Mac Pro that is still in perfect condition but can’t run the new versions of macOS because it’s missing a Metal-compatible graphics card. If it were my personal machine I’d purchase a 480 or such AMD card and be golden (until Apple removes all Intel support from macOS) but...
Ideally, your front left/center/right are the same speaker but this will only work if you have a sound transparent projector screen or if your screen is far enough off the ground that the speakers slot in under it (which will probably ruin immersion).
Subs without ports are generally going to...
OpenSSH is no longer being installed by default on Linux, true. It used to be on every version of Linux I was using prior to the discovery. It was also installed by default on OpenBSD (which I used quite often way back when).
Just because something has source available doesn’t mean that...
You mean this kind of open source eyes?

Use Sidecar (built in to macOS) to use your iPad to either act as a separate display or mirror an existing display. Some people have managed to use Sidecar with a Mac Mini as a sole display (don’t ask me how!).
Do any of your speakers accept balanced inputs? You’d probably do yourself a favor by going USB or Toslink out to a preamp and then balanced to the speakers. Apologies if this has already been suggested upthread.
1) I honestly don’t give a flying fuck whether or not you take me seriously. My opinion and rating are just that: My opinion and my rating.
2) I had already given the game a 6/10 rating. It didn’t change to 5/10 because of ‘da feels’ but because of bugs I can’t escape out of. The game has been...
