HDMI ARC to DAC for powered speakers

Good idea, but one shouldn't need to buy used to get this, and even then it will lack balanced stereo outputs which some powered speakers need. Not to mention the size, boatload of inputs, and amplifiers are overkill. Powered can easily be as-good and better than passive speakers and separate...

HDMI ARC to DAC for powered speakers

I reached out to all the mainstream receiver companies to tell them they should make the simple box I described. Maybe in a couple years we'll see a new option for $100-150! Given that smart TVs have become a totally viable central hub, and excellent powered speakers are widely available, it's...

HDMI ARC to DAC for powered speakers

Thanks dook! It's not documented whether the XDA-3 supports volume control via HDMI-CEC; hopefully it does. The functionality is overkill with analog inputs, USB, optical, triggers, and the entire front display. ashmelev, one downside with receivers is they don't have balanced outputs. And...

HDMI ARC to DAC for powered speakers

What's the best option for a box that takes in HDMI ARC audio, supports volume control with the TV remote, and has a high quality DAC for outputting line-level to powered speakers?

    LSR305+LSR310S

I found reviews comparing the two. http://noaudiophile.com/Behringer_Truth_B2031A/ http://noaudiophile.com/JBL_LSR305/ On the frequency response he said "Looks pretty good, but nowhere as good as the JBL LSR series." Also I see they're Class A/B which I guess means they're constantly burning...

    LSR305+LSR310S

I just want to say, the LSR305+310S is a mind blowing 2.1 setup. Some of the best $700 I ever spent. (with the Behringer UMC204HD used as the DAC).

Tom Cruise says, turn off frame interpolation

Tom Cruise says, turn off frame interpolation

Regardless of their intentions or decisions, the fact remains that 24fps comes from an archaic technical limitation a hundred years ago and I think it looks like garbage. Live performances aren't framerate limited, and the next-best thing in your home shouldn't be either. You spend all this...

Tom Cruise says, turn off frame interpolation

Info online says that 24fps was selected for film about a hundred years ago since that was the minimum speed required for the mechanically-linked phonograph to produce adequate sound, and film was expensive so it wouldn't be as economical to go higher. I think this pretty much shuts down any...

The state of 75" TVs for sale

I need a good 75", so a made the attached spreadsheet based on what Best Buy has for sale today for <$2500 and rtings data. There seems to be a lot of crap using 120Hz square wave backlight PWM, which is a nonstarter. The Vizio E-Series for $1180 looks acceptable, and you gotta step all the...

Does Win10 really not let you adjust font sizes?

This is crazy, I can't find either setting you guys are referring to. Dr., I don't have the little message icon near the clock since I hid that a long time ago. Do you know of another way to get there? A pic of my control panel is attached, and that Ease of Access leads to my previous...

Does Win10 really not let you adjust font sizes?

I've been using System Font Size Changer to make the fonts in the UI components larger and readable. The latest Win10 update overwrote it so I had to rerun the program. It still appears that Win10 gives you no way to adjust font sizes! For instance, the size of icon text on your desktop, or...

    Warning about Samsung panel types

On a past Samsung TV I bought, there were some extra letters on the outside of the box that described the panel manufacturer. I called all the Best Buys in my area and had them look at all the stock and tell me what letters they had.

Can I overclock my monitor to 75hz?

I doubt there's any risk of damage. You're just running a clock faster; worst-case, things go out of sync or electronics can't keep up.

How much better is high resolution audio

Nenu, what you're saying is complete rubbish, and I'll tell you why. Sure, processors generate voltage ripple as they consume varying amounts of current, and generate EMR. The solution to make this not interfere with audio isn't to minimize how much they process. If there is any interference...

Got a new large monitor but I'm getting some eye strain from it, why ?

At least the old VA's from ~2005 had terrible left-to-right contrast shift, which caused each eye to see something different. That effect would be worse the closer you are. I'd return the screen and get an IPS.

    Creative Labs Sound BlasterX AE-5

I exclusively used Creative since the AWE64...until I got monitor speakers that output every last detail. All the sudden, CPU usage and mouse movement became audible noise through the output of my Audigy 2 ZS. So you gotta keep in mind, you could have a 128-bit 1536kHz 400dB SNR card, but if...

You sure? This review of the similar KU6300 lists a pretty awful 36.7ms in 4:4:4. It looks like Samsung made a big improvement with the 2017 model MU6300, reaching a marginally tolerable 21ms.

    Recommend a USB DAC

If my 2.1 is powered and I connect power to the UMC, there is a low frequency pop through the sub. That never happens in my use case though; the UMC and LSR are on a power strip and the LSR take 6 seconds to turn on. Even with a standard USB cable you'd have to power the 2.1 before turning on...

Has the gaming monitor market become stagnant ?

It's inexcusible and complete BS that nvidia refuses to support The VESA Sync Standard (Adaptive-Sync). I'm positive nvidia has membership and representation in VESA. This is a complete failure. nvidia should fix it today with a simple driver update, but they don't because they have their...

    New 2.1 setup

The UMC204HD works awesomely (thanks |Tch0rT|). There's no PC noise whatsoever, even at all max volumes. And in that same case, unplugging the XLR cable to the LSR305 makes no change to the background noise, which means the UMC isn't outputting any noise even at max volume. Very impressive...

    New 2.1 setup

Well I don't have an optical out anyway. I went with the 204. I'll let you know how it works out. The noise floor out of my Audigy 2 ZS is ridiculously bad and dependent on CPU loading, and that's even with a quality Seasonic supply.

    New 2.1 setup

    |Tch0rT|, so uh, how do you know the UMC204HD outputs are balanced? He also makes a good point "Used as desktop interfaces, hardly anybody bothers using balanced...

Thanks a lot for the tips. I'm really confused by all the functions on the UMC202HD though. Can you really plug it into a PC's USB port, for the PC to stream audio through, and the box converts it to analog on 2 balanced TRS outputs? I don't know what half the buttons on the UMC202HD are even...
