I know this isn't a popular topic but came across this trying to pass a GPU through to my VM for plex. This is not to my credit, I wanted to share if anyone else was struggling with this too.
Issue:
-Enable GPU passthrough in esxi, power on/reboot of VM reboots esxi host
-vm fails to power on...
I've been browsing for a little while now but wondering what you guys recommend.
Budget= <$200 in US, used is fine
Requirements= 802.3af/802.3at spec, VLAN support, Gigabit, rack mount
I am going to be installing 5-6 AXIS POE cameras and have 3x existing POE APs. The APs currently use power...
Wasn't sure if this should be posted here or in virtualization.
I put pfSense in my 2 node ESX cluster but am having issues with it communicating over a L2 switch with VLANs. I'm not expecting anybody to have the golden ticket since I'm working with old hardware but hoping to get some...
Trying to help a friend build this on a budget of course. That budget was $300 and a laptop if possible. After I looked at the recommended spec, I told them that it is quite a stretch since the recommendation is using Quadro or Radeon Pro GPUs and it'd be closer to $1000. Even using GTX/RTX is...
I acquired the node through jebo_4jc in the DC FS/FT here- https://hardforum.com/threads/50-shipping-48-core-opteron-4p-rig.1994519/#post-1044569182
I got it Friday and just got it going tonight. I plan to put ~50% or more if I can to work for DC. I know it won't compete with some of the...
I have a few drives that were used in my MSA storage and wanting to use them standalone but am having some issues getting them to detect.
Device manager is able to see them but i cant get windows tools or a few third party tools to even detect it to format for use. Any ideas?
Because it's a small form factor, i'd like to throw it in my cabinet I recently cleaned out. I'm hoping its still up to to the challenge. If it's not, I'll have to wait til the new job starts paying to get something better.
SPECS:
Shuttle case
Athlon x2 5600+
4GB DDR2 800

This is for a home cabinet which will have a small lab and some other odds and ends in.
At my old job, we had started mid rack networking for multiple reasons and it made sense. We still had top of rack networking in the older cabinets.
My question is what are you guys doing for smaller/custom...
While searching for the next "opportunity". I've been wanting to get Nutanix CE running in a lab to tinker around and keep learning.
I know the min physical specs:
4 cores
16gb memory
Intel NIC
2 drives minimum (1ssd, 1hdd) (max 4 drives)
+200gb for hot tier
satadom/8gb usb minimum for os/boot...
Couple scenarios here. Looking at prices, used or new, it doesn't seem to make much sense for me to attempt an upgrade but maybe I'm missing something.
Long story short. I was given $500(USD) to get a gaming pc together that will push 60+ fps in games like Hitman 2 (must) but am going to use...
Love my G5 and was given another one from a friend when I bought his old pc for my kids. I think it's common (happened to both) that the wire starts to ride up in the sleeve and then kink, breaking the wire. I took the easiest way possible to repair and let them keep on keepin on.
Also...
Yes, another one but need some help. First. I'm not an audiophile but do enjoy balanced sound. I still don't have anything great. Yeah.. I'm all over the place on equipment.

Receiver: Sony STR-DH740
L/R Channel: JBL Monitor 4206

From the GenMay section, Skillz offered his E5-2660 to me if I can find a board (THANK YOU!). I've not done a lot of looking yet, mostly fleabay, but it looks like their may be some things to watch out for like the v1 boards vs v2's..etc.
What I'm looking for are some recommendations for a...
Just got a TC-P48C5E patch panel which is rated cat 5E, I have cat 6 cabling I plan to run. Will there be any real world difference in running the TC-P48C6 rated for cat 6?
Current use case is plex. All running hardware known is running gb nic's. When I transfer from my main pc to the san, I'd...
I'm trying to help the shop my brother works at upgrade/simply the current setup. I think I have a plan down but looking for 2nd opinions.
Issue
Multiple 4port hubs with varying speeds from 10Mb to Gbit. I've temp replaced the 10Mb with a Gbit to relieve the bottleneck.
Currently cables looks...
I'm usually on the Intel side of the house (only because I buy used and get decent deals). I'm looking to setup a budget gaming build for my brother and looking at the 8320 (decent deal used). We're already going to use the Gigabyte 7970 OC (3gb) card. We aren't looking to go nuts on parts...
Current hardware configuration:
2 Hosts- DL380 G6 2xE5540, 64GB
1 MSA- 2012sa 12x300GB Raid 6
ISP- 60dwn/6up (Max i can get in my area is 100/10) I would like to plan config for UPTO this. If it can support more, great but 100/10 would be ideal support.
Storage setup I would use for Xpenology

Hopefully this is the right place. Wasn't sure if this would go under virtualized or networking.
I am trying to get these working.
Currently do not have serial cable.

Looking for local (53220) sale ONLY at the moment.
̶$̶4̶0̶0̶ $̶430̶0̶ $175 OBO (Based on findings, looked to be 450+ shipping in most cases). AS-IS (only for cma. I couldn't find anything wrong with it) If local. I can do even lower. Basically, the closer you are the cheaper I can get...
First off, hopefully this is in the right section since I'm guessing it may lead to a FS type topic based on the raves about it. On that note, please do not post about FS type stuff here.
The subject pretty much says it all. I have a working one I'm not sure what to do with. Don't worry, it...
Looking for the best and/or most efficient approach. Sorry if this gets lengthy.

I should have a 48port gigabit and 8 port fiber switch when I get home. As cheap as they were, I couldn't pass up getting them both. I'm a noob to a lot of this and especially when it comes to fiber. I'm just starting to learn it at work.

My other half was wanting to see what was on netflix. Normally this isn't an issue as my PS3 was in the living room and did this function very well. My brother stole it to take to his room and now we don't have anything.
I have an older shuttle case with
AMD Athlon x2 (forgot model)

I'm definitely a noob when it comes to this which is also why I'm doing it. Current job and my own curiosity make this venture more worth while.
Current setup was nothing more than a single "host" and some vms to play with setup.

Friend is looking to upgrade his CPU only.
He thinks his board is this- MSI Z68A-G43
I went right to the motherboard CPU support page here- http://us.msi.com/support/mb/Z68AG43_G3.html#support-cpu
I told him the 3570K was the cpu to have from what I had read. He doesn't intend to do any OC...
I did post this over at oc.net hoping to get a quick reply from a couple people for some opinions. I do mess around with OC but nothing extreme, just trying to get nice and low temps (I know, can't break ambient). If anything the loop is [H]?

Looking to upgrade to more current tech on my aunt's computer. Since I am her IT support, I do like the mid atx / atx cases for ease of work and prices are a little cheaper. ITX is an option though as it is what she currently uses and what I was able to build on the egg. BUDGET IS $300 total...
Long story short - I fried my mobo.
Problem with replacement- It needs to have similar layout.
Dead mobo - ASRock Z87E-ITX
I have a customer water cooled Node 304 with shortened PSU cables. Amazon sellers want 250+ for a new ASRock board which isn't going to happen. Even fleabay is 230+...
I'm still looking into options. Nothing extra purchased or really explored yet.
I've only played with Raid 0 for my game server. Seems to work pretty well. I am now looking into some protection for media files (movies, pictures...etc).

I have a slightly modded Node 304.
I only have 2-3 storage locations I can use;

2- 2.5" mounted to inside front bay 1 (not really a bay)
2- 2.5" mounted to inside front bay 2 (not really a bay)
I definitely need to go...

What is everyone doing with them that they do not have them when selling the motherboard?
I was looking through the FS/T section (not just here) and was thinking "that is a running build in the picture and in a case, where is the plate?"
I know the plate isn't required, but is a pet peeve...
**Also posted over at Overclock.net- [Build Log] Fat guy in a little coat; water cooled Node 304 - Page 5
This is my first real attempt at having a build log. Usually I would just use the components as is when I build them. I'm definitely a noob when it comes to this type of modding. I did...
I'm looking to get some info about the loop I want to make.
I'm taking the advice of the members here who said I should leave my H80i alone and do a full custom loop.

GTX 660 SC
430W PSU

1. I'm new to water cooling.

Currently need to clear out some room and these parts are not doing anything for me. Hope they may be good to someone else here. The list may change as I find parts (or can't find them anymore). All prices are negotiable (except where noted) as long as they are reasonable. I am not much of a...
